2 spaces. I always use two spaces between anything with a dot, such as a period or a colon.

Two after a period. One after a colon, semi-colon, and comma.

Newspapers use 1 space right?

By seeing how many spaces people use in between sentences you can tell if they are cool or not. The really smart / cool / neat / everyone wants to know them people use 2. Like me

I don't know if anyone's posted this yet, but it WAS supposed to be two back in the day of typewriters. It wasn't a formatting issue, but rather something to do with how the typewriter physically made a space between a period and a capital letter. Now with inkjet printers and MS Word, there is no need anymore, so the correct way is to use one space.

Your teachers probably taught you to use two spaces because that is how they were taught to type back in the day. They just haven't been told to teach the correct way for some reason.

<< BTW, hasn't anyone noticed that all the people who are saying two are still only posting with one space between their sentences? >>

That's because HTML doesn't read more than one space. You can type two words, put as many spaces between them as you like, and it will still show up as one space.

Foo Bar (<-- I Typed 5 spaces).

One space. Used to be 2 spaces when I had a book report that needed to be inflated, but 2 spaces looks stupid, even if it is "proper". One space is far more intuitive to type.
