Constantly in the Navy. Mostly because its the only acceptable way to release stress. Right around the time I joined the service was cracking down hard on illegal drung use but also putting in lots of effort to deglamorize alchohol and the old ways of doing things.
Sailors going out, getting fucked up and acting like idiots was no longer considered cute or amusing. So on a daily basis pretty much the only way you can relieve stress and not get into trouble is by swearing.
I have been trying very hard to cut back on my swearing since I got out.
Despite the popularity of R movies these days, not to mention most HBO shows, its generally considered not acceptable to swear in society. It irritates people and makes them uncomfortable.
While I dont personally care about all that, I am trying to be successful in the world and its considered unprofessional to swear in the civilian workforce.
So I cut back on it.
As a general rule I have found that people are more willing to work with me when I'm not swearing, and the managers think more highly of me.
At home, when the video games piss me off: I unleash with full fury.
I guess I have the George Carlin attitude about language. You shouldnt let something as simple as a WORD offend you. Thats silly.
But if the only way you can express yourself is with obscenity then you either arent very intelligent, or wont be perceived as such. You should use cussing to enchance your communication, not limit it.
The purpose of comminication is to exchange information. If all you can do is swear you really arent saying much. A person who talks constantly and says little is announcing to the world how dumb he really is.
Keep your mouth shut, then no one will know. And you come off as mysterious.
Two perfect examples are Deadwood and The Sopranos. Can you imagine how much shit those people would accomplish if they just stopped swearing and got to work? Less time wasting with meaningless words, more time communicating actual thoughts, get straigt to business quicker.
Also, gratuitous swearing simply for comedy is definitely good stuff.
