Chase already does this. What was once 4 tellers is now 2.
I 'm surprised how long it has taken U.S. banks to do this. When I went to England in 1995, that is what Barclay's Bank looked like, a row of ATMs. If you wanted to use a teller for a transaction that could be completed on an ATM, there was a fee.
In the past decade I've spoken to a teller maybe five times:
Get wire transfer to pay off mortgage (this was a bizarre Wells Fargo requirement)
Change type of checking account when previous account went from free to fee.
Notarize title to sell car.
Notarize title to sell car.
Notarize title to sell trailer.
Everything else has been ATM and online.
