If there's a short line and I'm only buying a few things, I'll use it. Sometimes the line is long for no reason, though, and the registers there don't really accommodate purchasing more than a few items.

I would but the one I go to doesn't have any. Instead, I spend 10 minutes standing in the "Express Checkout" that's usually understaffed and people somehow spend 5 minutes at the register for 12 or less items.

I use self checkouts when available and I'm not buying something that needs a cashier. But I have no reason to go to Walmart.

I almost never use self checkout anywhere. Seems like more times than not, I get a 'special' item that doesn't scan right, and the clerk has to come over and do their job.

It's already killed jobs. Stores aren't doing it cause they like watching customers doing tricks. They spend some money up front, and they can get rid of some employees forever.

I only use self check out line at the stores when I am in a hurry and other lines are long.

No self checkout at our Walmart, only about 40 cash registers, and one of them is open. There is self checkouts at Home Depot though. I sometimes use them if it's for like one item, for more items or more "complicated" items like lumber I'll go to the cashier. I like to go to the cashier since if everyone stops using them they'll lose their jobs. So I do my part.

Interestingly at our movie theatre they have kiosks now, but most people still go to the front desk. Good to see people concerned about automation/job loss and doing their part. Though I have used the kiosks when the line is super long.

We try not to use the self checkout..I mean complain about jobs leaving and the contribute to it? ...but yea, sometimes you just have to.

Our Walmart always puts the slowest old lady on the express line. Jokes on us.

Whenever I'm in Wal-Mart heading to the register I stop for a minute and think about it. And my first thought is usually "what the hell am I doing in Wal-Mart?". Then I leave, go shop somewhere else and then use whatever line is shortest and gets me out the door fastest.

Don't go to Walmart. Elsewhere, whatever line is faster. Local supermarket chain Stop & Shop, now let's you use a hand scanner while you're shopping. You scan what you're buying, stick in in your bags, go to dedicated check out lanes to show a bar code from your scanner, pay and leave. Checking out and paying takes a minute.

I rarely shop at Walmart any more - maybe once or twice a year. But I usually use self-checkout.

I shop at our Walmart Neighborhood grocery store a lot - I love that place (new, clean, fast, cheap, perfect size, etc.). The self-checkout there is a dream...it actually works. I haven't been to the local Kroger in almost a year now. It's much more convenient location-wise, but they usually only have one cashier and their self-checkout is awful. I would get through an entire small set of items without "ATTENDANT HAS BEEN NOTIFIED" maybe one out of ten times, and I got tired of having to wait 30-90 seconds for an attendant to come clear whatever idiotic error it had detected (and it would happen about every other item).

Always. Can't even remember the last time I went through a manned checkout at Walmart.

Even at grocery stores that have actual checkout people who are capable of remembering the PLU code for bananas, I use the self-checkout if one is available.

Self checkouts have their own problems, definitely not trouble free. Not sure if they'll ever take over all the way tho. They can be quite expensive to run, maintain, etc

I use the self checks when the mood strikes me.
