Used to love Usenet. I used to spend a lot of time on the guitar and photo newsgroups - great source of info but somewhere along the line they were overrun by insane idiots. Ridiculous political posts, stupid flame wars that literally dragged on for years, trolling fanboys, etc. You have to wonder how pathetic someone's life must be who's making 50-60 posts a day in rec.music-makers.guitar about what a i love you "Jarl Siguard" is.Originally posted by: xospec1alk

This is fact. People don't appreciate how useful it is to have a single immense archive of information. I've solved quite a few PC problems by finding the answers in Usenet posts. And tons of newsgroups exist on subjects which no one has set up a website for. It's the one place accessible to everyone, supported by a tremendous search engine (Google), and immune from "site too busy" issues.
I understand that people who only use computers for entertainment don't appreciate the value of Usenet, but it serves a very useful purpose.
I agree...case in point, i was having some issues troubleshooting why my MS Money wasn't allowing me to login...i did a google search...nothing...i turned to the newsgroups, and BAM people were all over the issue already. of course it was an MS group, there was an MS rep answering questions...but doggone it...it gave me info the web would'nt have.
Its almost always the first stop on a hardware/software issue for me.

kind of like how EvanGn trolls here with 50-60 posts about how great newsgroups are.
