<< Two reasons ppl don't use warez:

1. they don't know where to get them
2. they don't know they exist
>>

I used to use warez, until about a month ago. All my friends were coming to me to get software that they needed. It suddenly occured to me how little of the software on my computer I had paid for. I was even running WinXP (Corporate). So one night, around midnight, I started weeding out all my illegal software. Now on my computer there are:

[*]No copies of any software that I don't own.
[*]No rips of any movie that I don't own.
[*]No MP3s from any CD that I don't own.

I'm still "weeding out" all the warez. Sometimes I've been able to find a usable freeware replacement for the sofware I had been using. I had to buy a couple programs (Got a good deal on Ghost and Norton Antivirus last week) to replace some programs that I really needed. Every once in a while, I'll still run across a disc or .zipped file of Warez, and toss 'em out. It feels good.

I cringe everytime I read in the FS/FT forum about ppl selling or wanting to buy win2k or any other few hundred dollar software package. I honestly feel guilty at times but then I think that with all the trouble my computer gives me that microsoft must have some built in utility that has only one purpose and that is to crash my computer and make games run like crap all because it some how knows I didn't pay.

Of course not that is so wrong and evil...lol

I actually paid for W2k pro (OEM edition of course)

Even if I did use warez, it's not so easy anymore..with the downturn in advertisement banners...some of the more reputable warez sites have faded away to be replaced with (Vote here sites...that normally result in absolutely nothing but gaining a few coins for them....as you will never find what you are looking for on their sites)

I was pretty bad my freshman year when I arrived on campus and really discovered what our LAN could do. Seemed like everybody shared their software with everybody. The version of PhotoShop 5 that I use today is from one of my neighbors my freshman year. I also downloaded more mp3s that year than during any other. That was back in the day when all the mp3 search engines only provided FTP addresses and you'd have to wait to log into them, then upload a certain amount to get credit to download what you wanted.

I was pretty bad my sophomore year too I guess. A lot of us figured out, that with the freshman arriving on campus, also came new software. I bought Office 97, but by my sophomore year, Office 2000 had arrived. It was never a problem to simply ask a freshman neighbor to "borrow" his Office 2000/Win98SE CD while you quietly stuck it in your burner. Although, I feel a lot more guilty about the free exchange of software today, I still am enticed by it. All of my friends are computer science majors, so I can't help but come across tons of software.

Another dangerous trend is the "go download the free trial version from the developer's web site then download the crack at Asta******.***.sk." That's just too damned easy!

To be honest, I do have a moral dilema with my actions. I consider what I do as stealing, and as a Christian, stealing is a sin. I keep on telling myself that when I have a real job that pays a fair amount of money, I'll start purchasing all my software. I just don't have the money right now to spend $600 on PhotoShop 6 or $600 on Dreamweaver Studio Developer or $60 on WinDVD 3.0 DTS. (I don't have any of those titles.) Lack of money is no excuse, though.

Windows 98SE, which I actually have a license for.

Looking to buy Win2K though, soon as I can find a good enough deal on it. (I definitely miss it)

Really? Where did you get it from?

I have a couple pieces that I will be purchasing once I get myself out of debt. Most of the mp3s that I have are out of print material or I actually own them.
