personally, not a whole lot, but I do watch some.

I work in an open office, so it's impossible not to overhear other people's conversations (and I also work a few cubes down from the office social butterfly)... when it comes to shows that I really don't want spoiled (at the moment, Breaking Bad, Scandal, and Mad Men are the only ones that come to mind), I've got to watch them live or risk having them unintentionally spoiled by my coworkers.

I pretty much only watch sports live at this point.

In your situation, I would say just start watching the show after its been on for 20 minutes or so while your recording it, that should be enough lee way to allow you to skip the commercials.

i usually watch later from the on-demand menu. i prefer to watch shows when it is convenient for me. the few shows i do like aren't on at times convenient for me so i never watch stuff as it is being aired.

I don't watch any TV. Aside from the time I spend at my mother's house, I don't know what's on. That's where I learned to despise MSNBC. It didn't take long. A couple minutes listening those assholes puts me in a bad mood for an hour or more.

as far as I'm aware, "live" is the accepted term for non-time delayed TV.

I think the word you want is "aired." Live TV are things like sport events, newscasts etc that are broadcast as they are happening. TV shows like Breaking Bad are filmed over several weeks.

Even if I'm watching when they're being broadcast most of the shows I watch are prerecorded.

pedantry aside, I'm almost positive that "live" is the accepted term for watching a television program as it's airing, as opposed to watching it through your DVR at a later point.

I watch a lot of sports, especially during football season.

I watch The Walking Dead, but almost always from the DVR.

Otherwise, if I do have something on that is not recorded, it is usually just for background entertainment as I work at home.

BTW, I have to agree that using the term "live" in this context is understood, but also is wrong.

Considering Nielsen calls it live viewing for their ratings, I think Loki is perfectly fine here.

I only watch sports live (in both senses of the word) unless my roommate is watching random stuff on TV and I'm bored.

You'd be the first I've heard of using it in that fashion.

Anyway, no. I'm usually working whenever the shows I want to watch do their original airing. I like watching without commercials anyway.

Not anywhere near as much as I used to. I don't watch sports and frankly, there's not a whole lot on anymore. The internet and video games have largely replaced it. When I buy my own property, probably just going to put up an OTA antenna and watch everything else online.

This thread is so deliberately confusing I contemplated not posting in it.

I think the OP is referring to initial broadcast television, sometimes just referred to as "broadcast television".

Live television refers to television that is broadcasted live - news and sports are the big ones.

Broadcast television refers to television that is filmed, and then broadcasted over the antenna, cable, satellite.

After-broadcast television are services like Hulu, or whatever moniker your local provider calls it (on-demand, w/e).

I do watch live television, only sports though and it is really the only way to consume sports.

Broadcast television? Not so much. I carry subscriptions to Hulu and Netflix and make do just fine.

Outside of sports, not really. If there's a show I want to catch up on I'll wait for it to hit the rental scene and power through the season in a couple nights.

No its not. Original airing is the word you want. IGemini is right. Live means, "NOW." Like Sports, news casts, thats live.

Football/baseball live, other programs semi live. By that I mean for half hour shows I start watching 9 minutes after the program starts, 17 minutes after start for hour programs so I can skip the commercials.

I've heard live used both ways, as in happening right now, as well as airing right now. In other words, if it's not being played from your DVR then it's "live."

Other than sports and the occasional news on TV, I don't watch anything else live.
