Do you wish you still had your old computer for Nostalga sake?

I used to have a 286, it was my first computer, I took such great care of it, I upgraded with with a Sound Blaster, put in a 1x cd rom drive, it was my little baby. I then unloaded it for 900 bucks after a couple years when I decided to get a blazing fast 486 SX33. I have always wondered what happened to my old 286 after the person I sold it too got rid of it.

Is it in some landfill, is it being used somewhere still (yeah right) WHERE IS IT?? ARRGH

I also would like to know what happened to my 486DX2 50 mhz. The SX33 that I got was a POS (packard bell) but I got a great DX2-50 a year later (for FREE thanks to a great guy at Best Buy who did an exchange with no questions asked, those days of Best Buy being cool are long gone).

My favorite memoirs date back to OS software like "Direct5". It was a single screen with 5 choices.. MS excel, word, paint, DOS and something else.

I used the paint program and drew a dinasaur and printed it with a very loud dot matrix printer. It was the BEST! Microsoft word was $400 and came with a set of 3 ring binders that was about 3 inches thick to act as a manual. Also had a stack of those large thin floppy discs to act as backup.

Then came a pentium 133, a celeron 433, and my current pentium3 rig. I also have a very old "Mac Classic" which is tiny yet still works!

I miss my VIC 20 with cassette drive, 300 baud modem, and my 12 inch black and white TV monitor!

I don't miss any of my former PC's all that much. I still have my beloved Amiga 1200 tucked away in the spare cupboard though. Sometimes I get a litle nostalic for my C64, but not so much for the hardware as for all the great games the machine had in its day.

I'm glad I still don't have my first real PC (Pentium 60 with 8Mb RAM and 1Mb Cirrus Logic card etc) because it was big and clunky but I wish I kept hold of the processor - would of made a nice keychain.

Gstanfor we are showing our age now but yes games in those days had special playability IMHO, sure the graphics look laughable now but playability and gameplay rocked!

Indeed! A lesson game developers today should sit up and take notice of. Graphics are nice and a decent standard of graphics (and sound) is required to help pull me into a game, BUT, they are not the most important part of the game.

I miss my old 486 dx2/66, it was the slowest thing that would still play some of my old games. Heh Maybe I should dig it out of the closet and fire it up.

I actually still have my C128 rig fully functional. But I don't turn it on much. The display hurts my eyes (I don't know how I lived with it back then), storage slow (no hard drive of course), and besides, I can run an emulator program on the PC to make it into a super fast overclocked C128.

My first computer was in apple back in 1992. Ruined my experience. I was just a kid!!!! Dad wouldn't spend money on computers until i finally got to college. So my second computer was a athlon 800, 128 megs of ram, 30 gig hdd. That I sold to my sister...upgrading is a sickness.

Nope, I traded my old Kaypro 2 for an ATI Xpert@Play. The card is still being used in my girlfriend's computer.

I still have my Amiga 600 hooked up and working.

Most games on it are still way better than most games I have for my top of the line PC.

But it's starting to feel a bit slow lately, Im probabaly gonna try to find a 1200 or better soon, shouldn't be too expensive these days.

*sigh*

When we got our 386 with the cyrix math co-processor, it was cool as hell. Toss is a 120 mb hard drive, 4 megs of ram, and a video card with 512k of on board memory (I think this set us back something insane, like five hundred bucks) and we had a pretty sweet computer back in the day. That fifteen inch sony trinitron monitor? wOOt!!

Windows 3.1 - you'll never use another OS like it (thank god).

We finnally trashed this computer just last year. We still had it running 3.1 just for reference - the amazing thing is that for the cost of the video card that thing had, you could build a computer probably ten or twenty times as fast in a number of aspects. Weird.

I feel young, my first computer was a Pentium MMX 233MHz, 32MB RAM, and a 3GB HD. When I first got it, everyone told me that I would never fill up the HD. Now I have games that take up 3GB on their own. My sister still uses it for net surfing and stuff.

I was very much a newbie when I first started in computers so I bought a Packard Bell. That was about 9 years ago.
Believe it or not I had alot of fun with that computer. It had all the bells and whistles at the time. It was one of the
first computers to have a CD rom drive etc. Now I wouldn't touch a premade. I buy all my parts and put it together myself.

I miss my old 486 myself. It ran Second Reality(it was a demo, as in a tech demo similar to the 3DMark series, not a game demo) very well and without complaints. I've never been able to find another machine that'll do that, many will just complain about not having enough free conventional memory.:|

I still have a dozen old Macs, two old athlon systems (one slot A, the other an AMD760 based socket A), and an old PIIICu system.
