Do your eyes get incredibly painful when you stare at monitor for too long?

I get this time to time, but as I'm older it's more frequent.

Whenever I stare at the screen, I feel a pressure... coming from inside the eye balls.

If I don't rest my eyes, it turns into a throbbing pain. Like my actual eyeballs hurt in a throbbing pain.

When it gets really bad, I can't even stare at the screen. It stops my productivity to a halt.

Once it's gotten to this point, I can't even go to sleep or rest my eyes, because it feels like the muscles inside the eyes 'LOCKED' into a flexing position and the constant pain won't go away. It also comes with a bad headache.

Anyone else get it this bad like me? What are some ways to remedy this?

Buy a high quality monitor. Too many people skimp on the monitor and end up paying the price.

yea, been noticing it more and more lately. by end of the work day my eyes are very sensitive to light. I noticed that reducing the brightness on my monitor helps a lot

A new Asus monitor...

Brightness is already quite low.

It's really annoying. I get huge dark circles under my eyes too and look like a panda.

Painful? They get a bit tired and sore on occasion.

I get eye strain at time which if I'm not careful can trigger a migraine. Generally a few minutes outside or just closing my eyes for a bit can relax them enough.

That's lack of sleep or allergies, not eye strain.

Unless you forgot to take off your mascara, that is.

I had eye strain when using CRTs at 60hz or interlaced CRTs at like 40hz or something years and years ago.

I have not had eye strain since I switched to 19 inch CRTs which could handle 1600x1200 at 75hz around Y2K. Since then, I've made the change over to LCDs and they are even easier on the eyes.

I was getting really bad headaches here recently so went to an ophthalmologist. Figured I'd go ahead and go to the surgeon and have him check my shit rather than some quicky eye shop on the corner.

He said everything was fine, just was straining reading, but didn't need glasses. He actually recommended the Gunnars which really surprised me.

I got the Stylus model off Amazon for $75. They seem to work well so far. May be psychosomatic though.

OP, I think you need some bias lighting. I used to get massive eye strain...then I put 2 "daylight" ccfls behind my monitors and its been alot better. It basically reduces the amount of light contrast between the screen and the background, which is often what hurts your eyes.

Here's what it looks like: http://www.flickr.com/photos/78598595@N03/6890914088/

Nope. I stopped using the computer in the dark. I always have all the lights on in the room and it makes it a lot better.

Never have gotten painful. I've gotten bleary-eyed and tired after hours and hours, but that's typical. I try to not stare at the screen for hours straight and make sure to look around every so often. My ADD helps me in that case anyway

Not anymore... it used to. Ever since I added a backlight, it doesn't hurt as much.

Also, I have my 40" TV on 24/7 when at my computer, and it's to my right -- bad for back and neck, good for eyes.
