I recently ordered a sff barebones kit from newegg, but after assembling the system the powersupply seemed to be the only thing that would work. When pressing the power button no response from the mobo. I frist thought it was the CPU, but after replcing it I'm still having the same problems? No beeps or light come on from the mobo. Sounds to me like a doa mobo? Any other thoughts or ideas?

The barebones kit is the XP4Evo by iWill.

Kinda does sound like a potential problem.... you got everything else installed? IE RAM, Video, etc....

if there is a problem and you just ordered it all from newegg, just send the entire thing back (if you still can't get it to power on)

no sense in screwing around with something if it's not gonna work!!

It sounds like the powersupply starts when you press the power button. The fact that your power supply is running tells you that it is receiving a "Power Good" signal from the motherboard, which means that the MOBO is totally dead. Did you use the stand-offs, brass MOBO mounting studs, when securing the motherboard to the case? If the MOBO is grounded to the case anyplace other than the mounting studs or the ATX cluster (mouse & keyboard connectors, USB, LAN, parallel port, serial port & sound connectors) it will not function. Also on some modern motherboards designed for an AGP video card, if you attempt to use an old PCI video card the system will not boot. Another possible source of your problem could be a bad, or inproperly setup CD-ROM or CD-RW drive which can sometimes cause a system to not start.

Sorry! I should have said that "The fact that your power supply is running tells you that it is receiving a "Power Good" signal from the motherboard, which means that the MOBO is NOT totally dead.

The mobo gives no signal that it's working. The psu powers fans and that's it. The mobo came with the barebones kit, so I don't think it shorted out when installing components.
