Docking in Elite Dangerous

To all else who have been playing Elite Dangerous since release, do you find docking to be a buggy mess? After getting permission to dock, half the time I will get into the position but the game never transitions to the vertical radar to complete the docking. Sometimes I will get the transition and get all blue rings, get into perfect position, but the actual docking never happens. Certain station types are worse than others.

I'm of mixed opinions so far on this game. Hopefully some patches come out soon to resolve these issues.

I did jut get bugged at one small station. tried docking 3 times 3 different pads correctly, and wouldn't let me. had to log out and log in.

Only docking bug I've faced is one time an outpost granted me permission to dock, but none of the docking pads would light up so I had no idea where to go. Eventually had to leave the area, came back and then it worked fine.

IIRC you need to be facing the correct direction to get it to work. I bought into the hype and honestly what we got wasn't very good. I hope it gets more work.

I just landed 5 out 5. I think there are some bugs on the server side because sometimes everything works fine and then sometimes its out of wack. I'm confident that my docking technique is sound.

You need to be oriented correctly to dock. Make sure your engines are facing you on the little ship model. It won't work if the ship nose if facing you. Alternatively, buy an auto-docking extension, always works when you use that.

Its always online multiplayer with a persistent economy. Not truly MMO because everywhere you go is instanced. Unlike EVE, it's twitch gameplay.

This is the game at it's best, but most of the time you are just playing space taxi.

The problem I see sometimes is the vertical landing display with the reticles that shows your position above the landing pad doesn't show up and can't be triggered unless I cancel and re-request docking. Doesn't really matter if your oriented properly or not. In some worst case situations I had to log out and back in. I will say that I never had the problem on pads that were inside the larger rotating stations....only on the smallish stations where the pads are exposed to space. On one occasion I didn't get the landing display but still triggered the docking.

I don't know why it has to be so finicky. If you your gear is down and you enter the lit rectangle then the vertical landing display should show up. It will virtually never show up unless I enter the lit area near the top. If I enter it less than half way it will almost always never show up.

...and no I'm not on the wrong pad.
