I for one, am looking forward to them getting rid of Pond. I dont care for the constant focus on Rory and Amy. With a new companion Im hoping well get back to focusing on the Doctor, rather than this Coupling in Space I keep watching.
The new Moffat series started with the Doctor landing in Amy's backyard, and essentially going through a huge chunk of her life. That and she's the first face he sees after dying. In the "new" Doctor Who series (since Billie Piper and Eccleston), I can't think of any companion who has been tied to the Doctor so tightly. For example, the Doctor just dropped on Rose "randomly", Tate randomly appeared in the Tardis, and <can't remember her name> was another "just happened to be there and off they go" companion. So, it makes sense that Amy (and Rory) are such a big part of the show.
I loved the first series with Eccleston, but lost some interest through to the end of Tennant's run. Reruns of the Christmas specials had me hooked, but once Moffat and Matt Smith took over, I started watching the show religiously. I found Anderson's stories a bit rehashed/boring and hard to connect to.
Series 7 trailer. Also known as shots from the first-episode because they only started filming a month ago:
