Me Likum. Big Mochine.
But nice. If the gas mileage doesnt bother you, go for it.

Think they had 2 size engines so, of course, get the biggest if there is a choice.

Any Particular questions?

Look here

Gas milage ain't too swell, and the safety reports are by no means that great either.

I wouldn't buy one without checking out Fords Explorer and Expidition because right now ford has 0% financing on their trucks and SUV's.

I just bought a 2000 GMC Jimmy for about 2700 under the sticker price, as well as 5.9% financing for 60 months. Here's a pic

NSF-

Was just looking for my Lit on the Durango and do think it said the high 5000s. Will post again if I find it even if I am wrong. Saw 4689 in the previous thread but that could be smallest, lightest and dry.

My uncle has a Dodge Durango with the big 5.9L V8, and I can truly say the gas mileage is scary on that sucker. Now talk about gas guzzler, during the summer with the AC on... the mpg got below 10, and fill-ups were even scarier. Prepare to spend a lot of money on gas for it. I believe the average mpg I saw for it is around 14-16 at most. Never did see it go above 20 in terms of mpg, then again it's a truck.

Other than it drinks gas like nothing, it's a pretty nice SUV if you can afford it. It has third row seating, Four Wheel drive, and the whole shebang. Another thing is I don't think there's a sunroof/moonroof option b/c of the way it's design.

thebestMAX,

Weight probably really depends upon gear and options that you have added to it. Four doors and 4WD is definitely going to up the weight of the beast. As well as beefing up the suspension, adding a sunroof, bigger tires, a bigger engine, towing package, and a couple other things.

After you tack on all of those things and figure in a full tank of gas, you are probably looking at the mid to high 5,000's.

Crap, I just got to looking at the cost of options on that thing. Sheesh! It doesn't even come w/ ABS standard. Dodge charges you an extra $495 for them :|

KidViciou$, if you are under the age of 25, I would really consider looking at other SUV's.

The GMC Jimmy that I bought gets 16/20. A Chevy Blazer will get the same.

Ford explorer gets 15 mpg / 19 mpg w/ a 6 clyinder, worse with a V8.

Nissan Pathfinder gets 15 mpg / 19 mpg

Honda Passport gets Automatic: 16 mpg / 20 mpg

Toyota 4runner gets Automatic: 16 mpg / 19 mpg

Doesn't standard just mean you HAVE to pay for them?

i have a '99 honda passport. its only a 2wd and on a full tank of gas, 20 gallons @ $35 total, it only goes apprx 250 miles. which makes the apprx mpg to be 12-13. the sticker mpg's on those manufacturer specs are only an approximation... as my case shows, my mileage definitely varied on it. :frown:

i really thought it'd be at least the same as my '90 prelude that i traded in. the sportscar, which is also notorious for its gas guzzling ability, actually beat out the suv w/ about 16-17 mpg!

thank god i didnt buy a doge durango!! i'd be paying $300/mo for gas only.

I heard they're working on a hybrid engine (similar to Honda Insight/Toyota Prius) for the Durango...should bump the mpg to around 20.

FYI: My dad's '99 5.0 Explorer averages about 16-17 mpg, and on all highway trips he gets 20 mpg. This isn't the best mpg but it isn't bad for a heavy vehicle with the aerodynamics of a brick.

I just went through this same ordeal a short time ago.

And finally decided on the Nissan Xterra. For a few key reasons...

I bought the Xterra SE model (SE model is the fully loaded)
* Air Conditioning
* CD-Player w/Cassette (The cassette is defunct IMO, but is actually useful when using a car adapter for stuff like MP3 player)
* 6-Cylinder (It's got enough power for OOMPH, but still okay on gas- 18MPH)
* 4x4 (Think winter)
* It's got a truck frame and feel with a sporty look. I LOVE my Xterra
* Badass Roofrack
* Moonroof
* A REAL First-Aid kit in the Trunk Door. I actually used the thing a few times already
* Can you say CARGO SPACE?
* Waterproof interior

I could go on, but you get the idea.

Note: Whatever you get, let me suggest to you that you get a Trailer Hitch...Even if you don't need it. Think of it this way...How close does someone want to come to your bumper if they see there's a hitch that could screw up their bumber there?

ProntoSpyder, that, unfortunatly is not true

My parents own a Durango (me only being 15), and we got the 5.2L motor, just because we bought the truck off the showroom floor, as is. It has every available oprion, except for the 5.9. We really wish we got the 5.9, because we get about 11MPG City, and 15MPG highway. That is pretty sad for the 5.2L.

Other than that, it is a GREAT truck, nothing wrong with it.

The hybrid that will be coming out will only boost the MPG slightly, by maybe 3MPG at best

Plus, they advertize it as 4WD, so it is the electric motor drives the front wheels, and the gas the back, so what happens when you go off roading, and the batteries run out? Stuck in 2WD with a really underpowered truck?

My GOD, do you people realize how much money that is a month? 12-13 mpg!! I thought my 22 mpg sucked and I'm spending $200/month on gas. Gonna buy a civic next year, the HX does 38 mpg, and almost 50 on the high way!

I'm going to buy a Maxima or something similar the following year but I don't plan on using it for long trips...kinda silly but given gas prices I'll actually use the less capable vehicle on long driving...
