Does a 17" LCD look smaller than a 19" widescreen LCD ?

just was wondering cause i went to staples the other day and was checking out this envision widescreen which i really liked but for some reason it looked smaller, but it could of been my imagination

a 19 inch widescreen at 1440 x 900 is most likely a lot wider and a bit shorter than the 17 inch...

If I remember the pythagorean theorem correctly (and I probably don't) a 17" 4:3 would be 13.6" wide and 10.2" high. A 19" ws (16:10) would be ~16.1" wide and ~10.1" high. So as the previous poster said, a lot wider but a bit shorter.

as far as i know, every single 17 in. LCD, like mine, is 5:4 not 4:3. but just for the rez, 1440x900 is wider, but shorter then the 1280x1024 of 17 and some 19 in. LCD's.

And if that is correct or reasonably so, the 17-in LCD would have a total display of 138.72 sq. inches, and the 19-inch Wide screen would display 162.61 sq. inches.

Personally, I would prefer the Wide Screen as I do a lot of work with left and right documents on a split screen. And wide is better for DVD movies.

You're right, I forgot about that retarded 5:4 resolution. God I hate that. Okay, new calculations, a standard (5:4) 17" would be 13.28" wide and 10.63" high, so a 19" ws would now be a half inch shorter than a 17". That's why the 17" looks bigger, that stupid "tall" resolution.

141.16 sq in is still smaller that 162,xx sq in. Seems to me to be an optical illusion if 141 looks bigger than 162.

man, 19" and only 1440x900?? that sucks, my asus z71v is 15.4" and 1680x1050

I hate how these lappy manufacturers keep sticking these crappy resolutions on these huge screens, it just seems so meaningless to make the display bigger but keep the same res
