For people who dislike music that they previously liked, that just means that you started at a lower level of musical appreciation. People like myself, on the other hand, started at a higher level of understanding and thus, everything we liked then, we still like now.

But seriously, the only bands/music that I can't listen to anymore, are songs that I strongly associate with certain points in my life, and maybe I don't feel like reliving those memories. That's about as close as I come to disliking something I formerly liked.

Agreed. I never liked whiny teeny-bopper music or "college rock", and that is the kind of stuff that gets old.

I was always big on grunge, and while I don't listen to it all the time any more it's still my favorite genre (e.g. Soundgarden, STP, DotN, etc.)

I actually still really enjoy the music that I listened to when I was younger, in the 80's and 90's.

I can't listen to "death" metal anymore. The screaming in my face thing is getting old.

absolutely... I was really into metal when I was younger, but now I can't stand it.

of course.. just like anything, your pallet constantly changes and evolves. That isn't to say you can't still enjoy stuff you enjoyed when you were younger but you have more refined tastes.

I /facepalm at some of the shit I used to listen to. 10+ years ago, now. Especially when I got on facebook and people remembered me as "that guy". Well... That was my cue to change their perception of me.

I've learned to respect and appreciate a much wider spectrum of music genres than when I was younger. There can be fantastic creativity and musical talent found in virtually all styles.

I still like all the older rock that I used to listen to, but as I get older I listen to even harder metal...

For example:

In 8th grade or so I started listening to slipknot...

Now I'm 24, and I listen to bands like.. Mors Principium Est, Black Dahlia Murder, Arsis, so on..

Yah, i'm working backwards according to the "older and more mellow" rule.

I play guitar, and like to play other things then just metal, but I love metal guitar because it's so technical (well, it CAN be). Metal overall is the only genre that consistently stays true, and isn't mainstream radio bullshit. Of course every once in a while a band will sell out to the mainstream.

I still listen to metal , been doing so since i was 12yrs old. (30 right now). and i can honestly picture myself being 80 and still listening to it.

Honestly to me , music style is not something you grow out of (or any music that you might enjoy, not just metal) if you listen to it because you REALLY love it, and not just because its hip or because all the other kids are doing it, or because its whats the flavour of the month being fed to you by the music labels & Radio stations.

quoting Sam dunn's Metal documentary:
"Ever since i was twelve years old, I´ve had to defend my love for Heavy Metal against those who say its a less valid form of music. My answer now is that you either feel it or you don't. If metal doesn't give that overwhelming surge of power that makes the hair stand up at the back of your neck, you might never get it, and you know what? , thats ok, because judging by the 40,000 metal heads around me, we're doing just fine without you" (@ Wacken open air festival )
