Does anybody really know when Simcity 4 comes out?

Should be out by Jan 17th. It's definitely not a game to miss - they have been putting a lot of time into making the simulation as accurate as possible instead of just the icing (graphics, pretty pictures, etc). But from the screenshots that were released they graphics look great too!

I have seen no announcement that it has gone gold yet, so I seriously doubt it can hit shelves before X-mas. If they had the gold master already and were pushing to get it on shelves before X-mas they would have made a big announcement about it to make sure everyone knew it was coming (and wouldn't spend their hard earned jack on another game for X-mas).

It was originally scheduled to be out by Christmas. However, about a month ago (I believe), EA offically pushed the date back into the new year. It's very close to being gold from what I hear. I'd trust EB and believe middle of January.

The game has been finsihed for weeks now. They're releasing it in jan for strategic reasons.. (to get game of the year, there would be less competition then, etc)

If it's finished, they've done a good job keeping it in-house. I haven't seen it anywhere, nor have I seen it listed on any release sites. Bravo to Maxis for that, at least.

Simsville was pretty much finished when it got cancelled.. As far as I know, no copy of that got leaked...
