Does anyone actually believe Trump will build the wall?

Trump has said his wall could cost up to $12 billion, but a Washington Post study estimated the wall would cost $25 billion. It will be made of precast concrete and reach up to 50 feet. He has said he will force Mexico to pay for the wall by blocking Mexicans who want to send money from the United States back home to Mexico from doing so if they don't show documentation proving their legal status. Mexico receives about $24 billion each year from people sending money from the United States.

"It's an easy decision for Mexico: make a one-time payment of $5 (billion)-10 billion to ensure that $24 billion continues to flow into their country year after year," Trump said on his campaign website.

Does anyone really think this will happen in his 4 years in office? How big an issue will it be for him in the next election if or when he doesnt deliver? I wonder how many Trump voters believe him on this. Or how many dont even care just as long as he got Hillary out of the way.

My guess is he'll ask congress for 20 billion to build the wall, hire his own companies to do the work and then file for bankruptcy after he blows through the money. After that he'll start the America/Mexico war.

I'd rather have the poor working on infrastructure for a fair wage than sitting around collecting welfare checks.

To most intelligent people sure, but I think majority of his supporters expect him to build the physical wall.
And majority of his contractors expected to get paid for their work. And his creditors expected to not be in bankruptcy. I can go on.

The wall was never going to happen, with or without him. The only thing that might happen is increased border security for all the good that would do.

I had the impression the fucking wall was one of his priorities. And no, I don't think it was meant metaphorically. I mean I think the idea is beyond absurd and of course it won't really do anything, but I think he'd build it. Maybe he will turn this into a major job creation" project where he pays people who help build the wall some lousy amount...but then have thousands of unemployed etc. working there.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that these intelligent people you speak of also thought he would never be the nominee, let alone the President. I do not see how that makes them more or less intelligent.
Yes, I expect a wall. I hope for it to be high and wide with milecastles and garrisons, but less will do. I further think it will protect the Latino communities from explotation and criminals even more than the rest of the USA.

Fortunately for him, they can't unvote for him when they don't get their physical wall.

From Trumps official site.

Donald J. Trump’s 10 Point Plan to Put America First

1. Begin working on an impenetrable physical wall on the southern border, on day one. Mexico will pay for the wall.

2. End catch-and-release. Under a Trump administration, anyone who illegally crosses the border will be detained until they are removed out of our country.

3. Move criminal aliens out day one, in joint operations with local, state, and federal law enforcement. We will terminate the Obama administration’s deadly, non-enforcement policies that allow thousands of criminal aliens to freely roam our streets....

Building the wall is simple. People have been building them for thousands of years. Simple people think Mexico will write us a check to pay for it. Smarter people realize that renegotiated trade agreements will pay for the wall. That the economic benefits of bringing work and jobs across the southern border will help pay for the wall. That reduced social outlays for treating and dealing with the fallout of drug addiction will help pay for the wall. That the reduction in costs dealing with drug cartels operating within our borders will help pay for the wall. The list goes on and on and smarter people will get the point and those that aren't, won't.

Smarter people also realize that the wall will not be 100% effective. Just like seat belt usage, weed killer application and birth control measures do not guarantee a 100% success rate. These things and many others are done countless times even though they are known to have a failure rate. They are still good things to do.

On January 20th of next year there will be changes. That is a lot of time to get your psyche in the right frame of mind. The change is coming whether you are ready for it or not.

The press is going to have a field day reporting on illegal immigration once that wall is built. Maybe their bias will be good for the country for once.

I believe he will get the wall up over at least half the southern border. Obviously there are complications such as the Rio Grande that make it seem impossible to wall the entire border. But what do I know, I only predicted the Trump win 14 months ago. I will leave this discussion to the better educated folks.

The wall is the one thing he has to do, it doesn't need to be super great but there needs to be some kind of wall this was the only thing he was pretty specific about.
I predict a big fight with Congress, Dems will want some kind of immigration compromise the approve funding which Donald will need to get the project started while he waits for Mexico to pay for it.

He won't, at least not if he really does expect Mexico to pay for it. Remember how Trump lied about not discussing the all with Mexico's Nieto, only for Nieto himself to call Trump out and say he'd rejected the idea? Yeah. Trump will have to get funding for the wall from the US, and even a sycophantic Republican Congress will probably balk at the many billions it would take to build and maintain that wall.

More realistically, you'll see more (and more advanced) border patrols. That could please some of Trump's supporters, but I suspect that a lot of his anti-immigration fans are going to be disappointed that his pie-in-the-sky dreams can't become reality.

Just wait until the economy crashes from how dependent we were on cheap labor.
