I suppose you could call it overpriced, but certainly less so than many stovetop pressure cookers. Kuhn Rikon, I'm looking at you in particular! Fagor is about the same price generally as Instant Pot. Basically the only popular / well-liked brand that is affordable is Presto. And the 8 quart unit is still $60.

Is that pressure cooker really any better than the $30 Aroma cooker I bought at Costco?

I know it may be faster but really is it more than 5% faster?

Are you talking about a rice cooker? A pressure cooker is not just a rice cooker. Just for rice, it's probably not faster, and possibly slower, than many rice cookers for just 1 cup of rice. But 4-5 cups it's going to be way more than 5% faster, because most of the time spent for 1 cup will be coming to pressure and natural release, and those don't ramp up much as you add more rice.

I knew it was too good to be true. I thought I was getting the Nighthawk R6700 but got the R6700V2 instead. Configuration is slow as molasses. Takes like forty seconds to save changes to options. Configure it as ap and the turkey freezes on me like six times a day. It recovers but it is just not acceptable for a network device to fail at networking.

How hard is it to cooking rice? I cook a cup of rice with my 25 year old Revereware. Takes ~5 minutes. If I need more I suppose I can move up from the medium saucepan.

I didn't get anything on Prime Day. If there are not deals on things I really want, I'm not going to spend all day clicking on "Next" just to see another page of crap products. Love Amazon. Just got four boxes yesterday. Love their customer service. Love the large inventory. Do not care about Prime Day. I am a Prime member for the shipping.

I'm in my 30's and I've never used a rice cooker until earlier this year. If I wanted rice I just cooked it in a pot. Until my Asian girlfriend got me a rice cooker. Evidently I've been living like a savage.

I just don't eat that much rice. Maybe if I was cooking for a large family or restaurant. Like you said, a pot works very well.

I cook brown rice and it takes a lot longer but this is my point. Cooking anything requires heat and time. Cookers make it easy because they regulate the heat and don't boil over (although mine does to an extent) so you do not have to babysit them. I want to know how much faster a pressure cooker is to justify it's price.

Gotcha. Not a big fan of brown rice. Have a bag of it. Guess a rice cooker would work better on that.

half this thread is talking about a g'damn rice cooker. Just go to chinatown, grab one on the cheap, and be done with it. I guess those of us who live near one or are asian have been too privileged. It's just g'damn rice. Which we eat no more than once a week. May as well be drooling over pizza ovens.

There is a community of affiliates out there who'd commit suicide if they heard you guys say nobody cares about Amazon Prime Day.

From a customer's point of view, though, do you really give a damn?

I guess not so

not really, he is into Instant Pot, not rice cookers.

Haha...well:

1. A quality computerized rice cooker is an amazing machine. Cooks perfect rice every time, cooks hands-off, and can keep it warm & moist all day so multiple meals.
2. I was a big fan of my Tiger fuzzy-logic Japanese rice cooker for many years, served my family well.
3. Higher-end models add pressurized induction cooking (those can go for $500 - $1,000+ in some cases)
4. The Instant Pot does perfect rice in 20 minutes. imo better than my fancy Japanese rice cooker. And all for $80 (3qt) to $130 (6qt...they do make larger, more expensive 8qt models, plus up to 14qt from other brands), plus it is also a pressurized induction cooker.
5. Really the only thing it lacks is the ability to keep the rice available all day...it does have a great warming function, but I've found it doesn't work nearly as well as a dedicated rice cooker's stay-warm function does.
6. I used to have a pot of rice on all day in my Tiger & would just grab leftovers from the fridge to eat with hot rice as snacks or meals, but I've since switched to meal prep (IIFYM) with containers, so I don't really need the all-day keep-warm function anymore

TL;DR - rice cookers are great, but because I meal prep my food in containers for the week, I just do a batch in the Instant Pot now.
