Variegation refers to something marked with different colors or tints in spots, streaks, or stripes - such as a variegated tulip. Unless one is using transparent bread, this doesn't seem to apply here.

It's a called a "Chip Butty"

Wrong sort of chips.
A chip butty is where you put chips (french fries but bigger) as the content of the sandwich, not when you add chips (crisps) to a sandwich.
