Still have MW2? If you trade it towards Blops at Gamestop you'll get $33 in credit for it.

Regarding this post I made, apparently that was not supposed to happen.

I took my copy of MW2 in expecting to get $10 for it and instead they told me it was worth $33. Come to find out, there was a bug with Gamestop's system that was giving a $20 bonus on select games when trading them towards a new game. The Gamestop people were supposed to be overriding the trade in values down $20, but mine didn't know to do that and I got the bugged credit. Apologies to anyone who did not get the $33 value. I have a receipt to prove I didn't make it up, I swear!

GTA games have never been about multiplayer. That was just plain stupid.

There are only a few games I bought based on hype. Black and White, probably the most overrated game of all time. RDR, way overrated to me. Mass Effect, which wasn't bad at all but I never really got into it much.

i know it isnt. but those multiplayer trailers got me sucked into the hype. made it looks awesome. then reality hit when i tried it.

I'm not big on hype. Just like anything else, they gotta work out the bugs first. If I get Black Ops, it'll probably be for commie zombies. Online multiplayer FPS is getting really worn out.

Me three. Also went for that L4D deal, for $5/game you can't really go wrong. I totally missed that FEAR 2 deal, would've gone for that. Steam holiday sale is the best time for indulgence.

Stalker SoC & Clear Sky for $7 total
Bioshock for $5
Crysis Complete for $14

now that i have a new updated computer im falling victim to steam super sales also. lol.

I like hype. But I stopped listening to video game podcasts. Recently it seems like they are ripping into the games I buy and play and it ruins the experience for me.

By the looks of sales figures on horribly shitty games and franchises, I'd guess MILLIONS fall for the hype.

I looked at the list before going to Gamestop.. only applied to the PS3 copy of MW2 so I didn't bother.

One of my friends (who also had the PS3 version) tried to take advantage as well but didn't get the bonus like I did.

Damn, was hoping to get $33 off for MW2 trade-in. Oh well, I'm back to not buying BO for the time being.

I had no intention of buying Black Ops, but dammit, this stupid hype has me thinking about it. I mean, I loved Modern Warfare 2, but I got tired of it and sold it on amazon when they had a killer trade-in value for it like 9 months later.

On top of that, I bought Halo Reach on release day and I barely get time to play that.

Although, if it weren't for hype, I wouldn't have played games like Mass Effect 1/2, Red Dead Redemption and many others.

My most recent "hype purchase" was Kinect with Dance Central, which I don't regret one bit. That game is a blast.

I got COD: BOP for PS3 on Monday midnight... played it for two days and gave it away to my friend... I wasn't impressed with the PS3 graphics... I should've stuck with PC FPS

EA used to take advantage of my extreme need for NFL football and as a result, I bought Madden every year due to the hype and the fact I had been without football for months. Not this year, however.

I've bought every madden game since it first came out... I probably put the game developers through college by now...

It bothers me now that most console-games get DLCs immediately after release so I tend to wait until they come with a "game of the year" editions.

Only exceptions would be online games; but I tend to play single-player on my console and play multiplayer on my PC anyways.

Almost bought into the Black Ops hype but I resisted. Now I'm glad I did, one week in and a lot of people are saying the MP is already getting old or just isn't as good as in past CoDs.

I fall victim to hype all the time, I'm often disappointed when I actually purchase a game and find out it wasn't what I expected. Like Black Ops, its no where fucking near 9000........

I buy way too many games that I never play... I think I might need to visit a 12 step program .

The hype and ads definately work on me. However, before I actually buy the game, I look for the reviews first to make sure at least the game is decent. I don't actually read the reviews much since I feel sometimes they give away too much of the game but I check the scores, make sure they're solid, then I purchase.

The biggest hype letdown buy for me by far was killzone on ps3. I bought a ps3 just so I could get that game because people said it was so awesome. I sold that game and the system 1 week later. I really tried to like it but the game sucked hard...

+1. I kept my PS3 for the Blu-Ray functionality, but I have two games for PS3 (KillZone2 and Uncharted2) and both, while visually impressive, are pretty boring. Uncharted is basically a streamlined, linear Tomb Raider but without the puzzles. KZ2 is a giant blender of lens flare, dust, and particle effects, with god awful dialogue, controls, and boring action.

Red Dead Redemption was pretty disappointing as well. Technically it's brilliant, and maybe if I dig back into it I'll like it more, but the plot is horribly slow-moving, and I was hoping the multiplayer would be more like Borderlands (which still kicks major ass online).

The reviews don't really work. You still get hyped games getting great reviews, but are still a disappoint.

GT5 has received generally positive reviews, but that game is a huge disappointment to me. The game just doesn't deliver what it promised through all of its hype leading up to release.

Still a good game, and I'm still glad I bought it, but I feel like it could've been more.

I always say I won't buy into hype, but for some reason I'm weak. I bought Warhammer Online CE, Aion, and Starcraft 2 CE as impulse buys on day one of their releases because of hype, and I've regretted all three. They weren't bad, but they always failed to fulfill the hype monster. It's taking everything I have to not buy GT5 right now. I've convinced myself to wait till payday, but the truth is I want to see what content will be in the soon to be released patches before I buy it.
