Having to have a new card issued(no use of that cc til you get the new one in the mail)
Use a different card in the mean time. You can't expect them to leave the account active when its become compromised. Would you not go through the hassle of changing the locks in your house if you knew someone else had a key?

You have to change any schedule transactions that you have on the canceled card to the new one.
But if you didn't have credit cards you wouldn't have the convenience of scheduled transactions and have to do check or MO EVERY time.

Update online bank information if you perform any online transactions. Etc.
Again, online transactions would be a PITA using cash (in some cases impossible).
I don't know maybe it's because Ive never had a card stolen that I feel this way, the bad transaction I had must have been an error vs fraud because Amex didn't change my number. Ive moved several times and had to update loan\bank\CC info and I guess that can be a bit of a hassle but really it takes less than an hour (and you dont change your address every week) so its not that big of a deal.
I feel that life would be MORE of a hassle without CC than having to go though the motions IF your card should ever become compromised.
Yes, some people don't have common sense when it comes to financial responsibility but that is another thread altogether.
