Use a different card in the mean time. You can't expect them to leave the account active when its become compromised. Would you not go through the hassle of changing the locks in your house if you knew someone else had a key?

You have to change any schedule transactions that you have on the canceled card to the new one.

But if you didn't have credit cards you wouldn't have the convenience of scheduled transactions and have to do check or MO EVERY time.

Update online bank information if you perform any online transactions. Etc.

Again, online transactions would be a PITA using cash (in some cases impossible).

I don't know maybe it's because Ive never had a card stolen that I feel this way, the bad transaction I had must have been an error vs fraud because Amex didn't change my number. Ive moved several times and had to update loan\bank\CC info and I guess that can be a bit of a hassle but really it takes less than an hour (and you dont change your address every week) so its not that big of a deal.

I feel that life would be MORE of a hassle without CC than having to go though the motions IF your card should ever become compromised.

Yes, some people don't have common sense when it comes to financial responsibility but that is another thread altogether.

I use cash more often than I thought I would. Surprisingly, a lot of places I go to still don't take credit/debit cards so having cash is a must.

Usually use my cc or debit.

Rarely ever have more than $20 on me, and right now the only reason I have cash is because I had to take some out few weeks ago when I went to a concert.

Fiat currency or plastic cards tracking my every move?! No way. I only barter with goats and chickens.

I use cash about twice a month. Everything is with my debit card (used like a Visa). I always have access to my money, it's automatically balanced, and it's insured against theft and fraud. I'm not sure why people still use cash at all

There is one diner in the middle of our small town that has a greasy sign that says "We don't take charge plates." LOL---it's been open for like 40 years and I think the same 10 people eat there every day.

I was just talking about the hassle of having one's cc compromised. And that in a lot of instances, it happens when you use a cc at a restaurant or situation where you are not able to watch the card get swiped/transaction occur.

I know a number of restaurants near me have gone to bringing a handheld cc machine to your table so you can swipe it yourself.

Primarily use debit, but will try to keep a little cash on me for when it's needed (e.g., for cover charges at clubs/bars, if a store's CC machines have gone down, etc.).

In Korea I'm 100% cash or direct transfers. In the US, probably about 80% credit cards and direct transfers.

Yeah, I pretty much funnel all of my expenses through my credit cards to maximize my credit card rewards (cash back, etc.) in various categories (restaurants, gas stations, groceries, movie theaters, home improvement, etc.). Heck, if they had a card swiper on a bubble gum machine, I'd probably use it.

Then I pay my various credit card monthly balances in full on another credit card (Fidelity Investments Rewards Signature Visa -- a 1.5% cash back on everything card). That way I get 2 months of float on most expenses, instead of just 1 month. That way I earn a little more interest ($100-$200 a year extra) while money sits in a high-yield liquid money market account. Plus, it's just plain convenient to do it that way.

I use my Amex Blue Cash card for everything I can to earn cash back. I keep some alternate cards just in case I run into a place that won't accept Amex, and a little cash.

CC whenever possible, although for smaller payments of maybe a dollar or two, I use cash whenever possible.

With a CC, I can track all my purchases a lot better and see where my money is going exactly. With cash, it's easy to forget what I spent money on.

For what it's worth, it's paid in full every month.

I keep some cash in my wallet, but I mostly only use cash to tip servers at restaurants because I want to at least give them the opportunity to keep it under the table.

Cash rewards make using the credit card a no-brainer.

When you think about it, cash = dirty, atleast your CC/DBTC is in your pocket, and as long as you to Shart you are just fine. For the guys that is.

I've had the same 20s in my wallet since May. I pay my rent and car with checks just to use up my blanks, the rest goes on a card.

I use a cc about once or twice every 3 months, providing that I can pay it off the day I use it.

I use cash the rest of the time, assuming you call money orders the same as cash. If not then I used cash on everything but bills (which get the money orders).
