Does anyone go to church on Christmas eve?

I've stopped going to church years ago. I just find the "lets all go to church and repent our sins" on Christmas eve very silly. I've also noticed that many young people aren't going to mass anymore.

Maybe it's a sign of things to come?

Eventually. In the meantime, it looks like things splitting hard two ways. The enlightened are giving up childhood fairy tales, and the other half are getting more fundamental. Non denominational cults have flourished over the last ~20 years, and they really pack them in.

and there's this I guess :^D

Found it on my newtab page in firefox. I appreciate thought, but it looks like a pointless abstraction to me. Just go in the woods and drink some whisky. That's all the ritual you need.

Yes I do
Now for general discussion. The key is finding the right Church community as in whom goes to the Church and finding the right Pastor, Preacher, Priest or whomever that has a good way of explaining complicated ideas. Not dictating ideas.
Scripture is worded sort of weird to our modern brains and some of it is mistranslated or taken too literally.
For example I don’t remember the specific parable but it involved a saint and a woman cleaning his feet with her hair. My Pastor is a good language guy. He explained foot was also used as slang for a guys “junk” and hair was frequently slang for a woman “junk” in old Hebrew.
Story made a lot more sense when viewed that way.
Summary:
Find a person performing the service who can explain things to think about or reflect upon. Scriptures are typically simple stories that invoke thought
Find a corrugation that is accepting and has good fellowship
Takes time but after a while you can start to understand and reflect upon things better, at least I can now.
Also a real benefit is going to a place where you know you are loved.

Finally, I have been hearing since the early 80s that Churches are losing membership at an alarming rate but yet there are still places of Worship, there are people there that were in their 20s in the late 80s or early 90s.

There's the key to religion. Find one that tells you what you want to hear, and if necessary, invent a new one. That way you get to blame god for you doing all the shit you were going to do anyway. How else did we manage to get so many sects of Christianity in less than 2000 years?

That's what forgiveness is for...

Christmas isnt even a real holy day. its a pagan thing.
Well to the Roman Pagans it was. The Early Roman Catholic Church basically co-opt the Roman Holiday Dies Natalis Solis Invicti which occured on Dec 25. The Puritans knew this which why that not only they didn't celebrate, they outlawed Xmas in both Cromwell England and the Colonies in North America that they controlled.

The last time I stepped into a church for the purpose of attending a church service, Jimmy Carter was President.

I'm working during Christmas time so won't be going, but I normally go. I actually do enjoy going though so I feel like I'm missing out by not going. It's just such a nice time and really brings out the Christmas spirit.

It was the night before Christmas and all through the house,
not a creature was stirring not even a mouse...

When my wife "makes" me. Otherwise, I'm perfect content celebrating another year with my family.

Growing up, my parents would make us go to church on Christmas Eve even though we never went throughout the year. I just couldn't wait until it was over and I could eat dinner at my grandparents' place.

I'm not religious and have decided long ago that hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side.
I do not raise my children to subscribe to ancient arab folk tales nor do I toss the word spiritual around while showing off my collection of dream catchers.

However, my kids and I do volunteer at local churches. My inlaws are Catholics. We've accumulated more church time in one year than they have in a decade.
If I didn't work on Christmas Eve, I'd probably be at some church helping out. Don't give a crap about the religious stuff and don't believe any of it. However, old people need help lifting heavy stuff and churches serve those in need throughout community.

I understand the community aspect of it, like an extended family who try to support you and never shun you, but, all the spiritual stuff ruins it for me. Would be happy to go to a secular humanist gathering or a Satanic Temple gathering though.

If it was not for the spiritual part, Christmas as a whole would just feel super empty. Like it may as well be a holiday just for the sake of a holiday with no reasoning. Suppose it could be called National Chinese Food day or something.

Sure. It's a pretty brief service - 1 hr - and lots of group singing by candlelight. Really evocative.

Satanists are a great community, they're very supportive and helpful. If you need a goat to slaughter for a blood ritual and run out there's always somebody willing to lend you one. The Jesusfreaks are never that nice.

The Satanic Temple is a secular religion.

Usually, Goats are sacrificed for Eid. It is a Muslim holiday where Muslims show their faith/devotion by sacrificing an animal. That is not a satanic holiday.

Theistic Satanists are rare, though some have been proponents of human sacrifices. I am not aware of any contemporary satanists who conduct animal sacrifices. I believe that is simply baseless propaganda.

You're going to the wrong temples. Blood sacrifices followed by the blood orgy are how some of us celebrate the holidays. The Christians do the same thing, they just pretend that after they eat the flesh and blood of Jesus that they don't follow it up with the orgy.
