I'd love to get a CookShack smoker or a Green Egg but they are a bit out of my price range at the moment.

I'm looking at the Weber Smokey Mountain Bullet Smoker. Does anyone have this one? How do you like it?

What kind of smoker do you have and how do you like it?

Cheers,
Aquaman

I used to have one sort of like this:

http://www.brinkmann.net/products/o...okers_and_grills/details.aspx?item=852-7006-0

Same brand, but older...and built a bit differently.

it was OK, but I just didn't use it often enough to justify keeping it, so it went in a yard sale.

My neighbor just bought one of these:

He's been a smoking fool with that. End products aren't bad...he uses too much hickory for my tastes...but it's not horrible...just strong.

I have a smoker like this that I use all the time.

It's propane fired and holds temp like a champ. I frequently take it camping with us and it doubles as an oven if you don't use any wood chips.

ive got the electric brinkman. works great. no fuss. plenty of room with 2 large shelves for lots of food. i did the home made flower pot thing but honestly...its not worth the trouble. the cheap metal smokers work great.

I've got the older weber bullet and it's awesome. I'm envious of the newer ones. They are bigger, have built in hood thermometer and have a better fuel access door.

They are amazing devices. I've done a couple hundred pounds of pork shoulder on it and a mountain of ribs. Several salmon smokes as well. All turn out excellent. Once you learn how to use it you can set a temp and it'll hold it for 5-10 hours without any tending. I've done overnight smokes with it without issue.

It's a great device to have if you are into that type of cooking.

I have the 18.5" Weber Smokey Mountain (WSM). Weber makes quality products, and (although I've never had to deal with them) their customer service is supposed to be excellent if you need something replaced under warranty. I just got it a month ago, and I've used it 3 times so far. Adding up everything from the 3 times I've used it, I have done 4 racks of baby back ribs, 6 chickens, approx 25 pounds of pork butt, and approx 75 ABTs. The WSM is great. I highly recommend http://www.virtualweberbullet.com/ to get educated on the WSM. I probably spent 10 hours reading through articles, recipes, and forum posts on that website before I fired up my WSM the first time.

I have a Traeger Lil Tex smoker/grill, and it is one of the best purchases I have ever made. By far the best grill around as well.

I built a flower pot smoker. It works marvelously. I do pork butts, ribs and whole turkeys on it pretty regularly. It'll hit right around 275 or 280 at its hottest, but most of the time I'm running it right around 225.

Great way to get into smoking meat and once you start smoking you'll never cook over flame again. I've had this for a couple years now and it works great every time. I've smoked ribs on this thing for hours and they always come out juicy and tender. Make sure you use a hardwood charcoal and not the brickettes.

I've got the 22.5 inch version of the WSM and I haven't had a bad smoke yet in over a year in ownership. I use it damned near every weekend. I had a Masterbuilt electric smoker prior that worked pretty good, but the WSM holds temps with very little tending, even can do high heat at 350 degrees without breaking a sweat for doing quick smokes of large bottom round roasts (cooked rare of course--damn tasty sammiches!).

Get one, you will not be disappointed.

I have one. Of these and they are great for starters. There are quite a few things I don't like, but for the price, it gets the job done and so far everything has been pretty good. I mostly do ribs, salmon, and chicken.

Ditto the tidbit about skipping the brickettes and use hardwood charcoal.

I'm not sure if I'd agree with that. There are plenty of competition BBQers who will only use briquets (Kingsford Blue, to be exact) because you can rely on briquets to always have the same composition. It's much easier to control the temperature in a smoker when you can predict how your fuel will burn. When I fill my WSM, I use all Kingsford Blue plus 5 or 6 fist-sized chunks of wood (typically apple and cherry...sometimes a chunk of hickory).

To each their own I guess. I'm somewhat of a newbie since I've only clocked about 30 hours on my smoker, and I chose briquetes because it was recommended in the articles I've read. Not to mention it's usually half the price of lump charcoal.

Ive been using a Masterbuilt electric smoker since Christmas. I love it. It holds its temps, plenty of room, great smoke flavor too. My only complaint is, where I live it gets below freezing during the winter and I have to manuel heat it up before it will turn on. Not hard though, all I have to do is get a hot rag and hang it inside for about five minutes to warm it up.
