does anyone have a Xigmatek S1283 HSF and a Gigabyte P45 UD3 mb and tall RAM?

Xigmatek S1283 HSF + Gigabyte EP45-UD3R + G.Skill with tall heatsinks
reading a lot of reviews on newegg that it blocks dimm slots 0 and maybe 1, but no one is confirming their board and which way they are orienting the HSF.

also, which way is it supposed to be oriented?
fan blowing from front of case to back?
or fan blowing from bottom (video card) to top of case?

I have Patriot Viper DDR2 (with the tall green heatspreaders)

Front to back or bottom to top is your preference I believe, I would think its better to do bottom to top since you get cooler air from the bottom. I mount bottom to top with my AM3 board, and I had to rip off the heat spreader for the RAM in slot 0, but slot 1 sits right next to it.

I don't think the RAM really needs heatspreaders anyway.

i've read a review with it said it depended on the # of cpu cores and the orientation of the copper heatpipes to coincide with the alignment of the cores.

how is your HSF oriented? with it facing the back exhaust there shouldnt be any issues with it blocking your ram unless you plan on using a 38mm fan, and if my measurements are right even that might not be an issue. i dont currently have my S-1283 mounted to my UD3P, but my megahalems, which is a thicker cooler, doesnt block any ram slots in this orientation, when using a 25mm fan and 4 DIMMs

it will be blowing out the back, so the fan will be on the RAM side of the CPU socket.
currently with my arctic cooling freezer pro 7, the fan nudges against DIMM0, and i think it's restricting airflow, although i still am getting decent temps.

seems like the F7Pro actually takes up more space in the direction of the RAM than the S-1283 would. all i can confirm is that the location of the ram slots in relation to the CPU socket is identical on the UD3P and UD3R, and i havent had any issues with a cooler larger than an S-1283 blocking my memory slots, with or without standard height dimms. i could fit 4x PI Black dimms in here if i wanted to, and those are some of the tallest DIMMs i have ever seen lol

I have the same problem. But I'm on an AMD board so I have no choice with the HS orientation. I have to use that dreadfull bracket clip to secure the HS in place.

If I could find a mountaing backplate solution that would be compatible with the AM2/3 rectangular design and allow me to re-orient the HS, I would be able to free the 0,1 memory slots.

If that backplate solution exists, please let me know :___( All the crossbow mounting kit from Xigmatek seem to be made for the Intel solutions...

I don't believe so.. IIRC AM2/3 boards do not have holes for you to mount a backplate to. To be honest, just remove the 0/1 heatspreaders... your RAM doesn't get that incredibly hot anyway.
