Does anyone here actually *laugh* at [new] sit-coms?

I made the mistake of being bored, and turned on the TV, only to find sit-coms. I enjoy a good laugh, but none could be found. How the heck do networks make money off these, and why do they keep making them? And then they cancel after a few months.

How may times can they rehash the same premise: quirky people living under the same roof, dealing with the same situations, saying things that are supposed to be funny (yet the people on the set never laugh at them), couch facing forward, staircase in the back, fron door on one side, kitchen on the other...

Things have changed since the classics I grew up on: All in the Family, Happy Days, Three's Company, MASH

Whew...ventage over.

Try Arrested Development...it's a breath of fresh air.

They are time fillers.

Some are genuinely funny though. Coupling (English version) is very very very funny.

Very rarely. Most are cute, but not "funny". I don't laugh at Seinfeld anymore, because I know all the jokes. A joke has to be fresh for it to be funny. I chuckle occassionally at Cheers. The 2 sitcoms that I laugh out loud at frequently are South Park and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

What bugs me about sitcoms is that they play those stupid laughing sound effects on parts that are supposed to be funny... as if to cue us to laugh.

Of course I laugh at them. But never with them.

For example: Two and a Half Men. This is a show that tries so very hard to be funny, and fails so miserably. It's terrible.

Some, however, work better than others. Reba is very funny. (Or at least it was last year.. haven't watched it this year.)

I don't really find Seinfeld, King of the Hill, or Frasier funny.

I used to laugh at sienfield, friends, and fraiser, but all sitcoms made since then just plain suck.

Agreed, but the question remains: are networks actually making money off these? Or do they have one that makes tons of cash that gives them a positive bottom line despite the 10 losers they carry?
