Does anyone here actually use TikTok?

I'm speaking to the over 30 folks on the forum. I can't tell you how many people I've met who use TikTok and are over 60

It just seems a bit creepy to me. The majority of creators on TikTok are under 25 it seems.

Back when I used the social medias I only used the platforms that stole my personal info and kept it here in 'Murica! I don't want none o' my data being sent over to help them program that China virus and all the other dangerous stuff comin' outta Wu-tan or Wu-han or wherever.

In all seriousness though I've never seen the appeal of TikTok. Hell, I don't even get Instagram.

I definitely don't "get" TikTok, and I really don't care. I'm 35, get off my lawn 😂

I use Instagram a little but it's mostly full of garbage "influencers" and the like it seems. I follow a few pro photographers and National Geographic (plus people I know in real life)

I watch the occasional linked video but I don't use the app and have no plans to start.

My guess is however that at some point in the not too distant future tiktok will become the "next Youtube" and YT itself will go the way of Myspace etc.

I'm sure Myspace felt the same way about Facebook/Meta.

YT is busily doing itself in by screwing over content-creators and making it a PITA to make money streaming there.

It will be their undoing and MUCH sooner than most folks expect.

Youtube thought that brief videos a la Scotty Kilmer's vintage style were dead....and made people make TV episodes.

Then Tik Tok comes along with vids that are even shorter than Scotty's vintage presentation.

55 here, never toked. Never will. I do look at reels but mostly for car crashes, bike mishaps (bikers are dbags) and the occasional "Karen getting her ass kicked" videos.

Never used it, don't have an account either. I've went on it a bit if someone sent me a link but that's about it. I've heard of people leveraging Tiktok to promote their Youtube channel though. Something about the Tiktok algorithm brings you in lot of views when you're new to try to encourage you to keep going.

i'm more than annoyed at it for keeping my screens phone active for the last 10 hours somehow., signed up for an account while overseas on a foreign #, i seem to get a lot of videos showing off ample cleavage usually based on my current geolocation if possible. I have never interected/searched with the app, never given it permision to snoop. I try not to use it unless i am on wifi as it eats up a lot of data

If you're going to use Tiktok do it on PC, the app is full of spying and data harvesting stuff, I would not touch that with a 20 foot pole.

I assume most if not all free apps do that, facebook and twitter are two of the worst at this,i block everything(i can) as well as use firefox with ublock/privacy block+

I don't use either service, but a lot of time there's a libre solution that's at least better if not perfect. Maybe they're better. There's also just using a browser. Every web connection doesn't require it's own (cr)app. This is a problem that was solved decades ago.

Tick tock is definitely a much younger demographic than most people here. I know it has some good stuff on it but it definitely caters to a younger crowd and I'm just not wasting my time sifting through and finding the people that are actually worth following. I have enough places to get good recommendations for stuff.

Plus their privacy is among the worst so why add another.

Kaido said he was really jazzed with TikTok. I may have an account, not sure. Never go there, haven't installed it on any of my smartphones... or have I?
