That's the problem. A lot of them are too dumb for anyone with a brain. Takes a lot of scrolling to find something interesting. I have much better luck with youtube's recommendations.
Depends how tuned your algorithm is. I'm 52 and I see clips of guitarists, Star Trek episodes, comedy, car info, and nostalgia stuff 90% of the time, with some stupid stuff thrown in here and there. I actually had a live convo with Peter Frampton of all people a few weeks back! He's managing his illness and actually going to perform a farewell performance in Henderson Nevada next year. I'd LOVE to go to that!

However, TikTok seems to be very intrusive with keyword monitoring. I'll literally see videos relating to anything off the wall random thing I've said during the day. I ended up turning camera and mic access off on the app.

How is it that I can spot a spammer in an instant, usually just from their ID and before they start embedding links in their posts?

I can usually tell by their "Get right into it..." tone like they're super famous and we've know them our entire lives.

Kaido said he was really jazzed with TikTok. I may have an account, not sure. Never go there, haven't installed it on any of my smartphones... or have I?

I follow nearly 4,000 people on TikTok. I don't (currently) post any videos. The primary topics I follow include:

1. Cooking
2. ADHD
3. Comedy
4. Music
5. Crafting (Cricut, 3D printing, CNC, etc.)
6. Technology
7. Product reviews (tools, technology, etc.)
8. Cars
9. Movie trivia
10. Art (creation, timelapses, photography, techniques, tips & tricks, etc.)

I don't always have the attention span to watch an entire 10-minute Youtube video, but when I'm waiting in line somewhere or waiting on a server install at work or whatever, I like these little one-minute "brain candy" clips to help fill the time & prevent boredom (boredom is literally painful to my brain lol). It's sort of like being on Twitter, where you're just having a quick snippet of a conversation with somebody, but even better as a time-waster because the entertainment is provided directly to you!

Plus, sometimes people have REALLY fantastic explanations about things in a very short amount of time! For example, I suffer from ADHD. One of the symptoms is "task paralysis", which is where my brain runs out of energy to command my body, no matter how simple the task is, sort of like having a remote-controlled toy car but the batteries in the transmitter are dead. The exact feeling of what living with that feels like was captured perfectly in this video:

I also like to try new culinary adventures. This "long fries" recipe is pretty cool, where you basically take baked potatoes, mash it with cornstarch, and then deep-fry them as "long" French fries: (soooo good lol)

A large amount of TikTok videos are essentially what was previously Usenet-style tribal knowledge in condensed video format, sort of like if a friend both knew what they were doing AND explained it straight-to-the-point. The beauty of it is that you can record directly from your phone or use basic editing tools such as Capcut, which makes it accessible to more people who aren't as technically-savy, because all they have to do is stick their phone on a tripod, hit record, and upload, no fuss!

Low post count or recent join date is surely sufficient? No real human being has joined this forum since the Clinton administration.

Since short videos seem to be all the craze figured I should start making some. I just did one on Youtube with some random footage just to test the functionality.

I don't really make that many videos on my channel but I figure if I make short ones too it might actually get people to check my channel as the shorts may rank differently or show up more randomly for people. May increase exposure.

When I start my cabin build I want to try to make more videos of the progress and I may very well make lot of short videos too that extract some of the more interesting parts.

For anyone curious for it to show up as a "shorts" video on youtube you need to make it vertical (yeah I know) and put #shorts in title or description. Has to be under 1 minute long I think. Me personally I aim for 30 seconds or less.

Savage lol. He's not wrong though. American social media companies are not really any better when it comes to privacy. They're pretty much all bad.
China appears to me to be an order of magnitude more into surveillance and control of its populace. In the USA there's plenty of pushback against intrusion of government, commerce, or any entity into one's "private life." In China, privacy is nonexistent. Since the CCP has zero interest in privacy for its own citizens it's clear that they would have absolutely none for foreigners.

Unfortunately not enough pushback. There should have been pushback when the patriot act got put in place, and there should have been more support for Snowden when he leaked the info, and there should be more pushback against cars that spy on us, technology in general that spy on us etc... seems the majority are just docile to it now. "I have nothing to hide" they say.

If you had said Europe then i would have agreed with you, but America? while not as bad as China, it's still pretty bad in regards to privacy on a lot of fronts thanks to shit like the 'patriot act' and their love of selling harvested data

I think the key difference is that China has a lot more on their agenda for Americans data then jacking up profits for shareholders.

Anyone who feels like heading down a rabbit-hole, start reading up on what militaries are up to with "mind-warfare", "psy-ops" or similar search terms .... it's some seriously scary IRL sci-fi materiel. (and TikTok would be an ideal "vector")

I don’t use Tik-Tok. What functionality is unique to TT that can’t be had from other platforms?

I started using TT last year. It has an incredibly good algorithm that targets your exact interests, and it's really good at posting funny, interesting things without encouraging people to be polorizing (the biggest issue with Facebook and Twitter). TT has also become a great way to get breaking news before it even hits the news channels. For example I was actually watching onsite live footage of the Michigan State U shooter before the news picked it up.

The interface is brilliant as well because it's in a "flip the channels on TV" format. You just keep swiping until something catches your eye.
