Kaido said he was really jazzed with TikTok. I may have an account, not sure. Never go there, haven't installed it on any of my smartphones... or have I?
I follow nearly 4,000 people on TikTok. I don't (currently) post any videos. The primary topics I follow include:
1. Cooking
2. ADHD
3. Comedy
4. Music
5. Crafting (Cricut, 3D printing, CNC, etc.)
6. Technology
7. Product reviews (tools, technology, etc.)
8. Cars
9. Movie trivia
10. Art (creation, timelapses, photography, techniques, tips & tricks, etc.)
I don't always have the attention span to watch an entire 10-minute Youtube video, but when I'm waiting in line somewhere or waiting on a server install at work or whatever, I like these little one-minute "brain candy" clips to help fill the time & prevent boredom (boredom is literally painful to my brain lol). It's sort of like being on Twitter, where you're just having a quick snippet of a conversation with somebody, but even better as a time-waster because the entertainment is provided directly to you!
Plus, sometimes people have REALLY fantastic explanations about things in a very short amount of time! For example, I suffer from ADHD. One of the symptoms is "task paralysis", which is where my brain runs out of energy to command my body, no matter how simple the task is, sort of like having a remote-controlled toy car but the batteries in the transmitter are dead. The
exact feeling of what living with that feels like was captured perfectly in this video:
I also like to try new culinary adventures. This "long fries" recipe is pretty cool, where you basically take baked potatoes, mash it with cornstarch, and then deep-fry them as "long" French fries: (soooo good lol)
A large amount of TikTok videos are essentially what was previously Usenet-style tribal knowledge in condensed video format, sort of like if a friend both knew what they were doing AND explained it straight-to-the-point. The beauty of it is that you can record directly from your phone or use basic editing tools such as Capcut, which makes it accessible to more people who aren't as technically-savy, because all they have to do is stick their phone on a tripod, hit record, and upload, no fuss!
