Yeah... No

Dubstep sounds as much as fun as being at a construction site, and dont tell me its an acquired taste, since I listen to all kinds of metal, so Im pretty used to "noisy" stuff overall

From the stuff posted in this thread, Dubstep sounds like the kind of thing you listen to when youre high or something, but I wouldnt even call it music

I definitely can't speak for the history of the genres but it seems to me that Dubstep and Drum and Bass are diverging *shrug* Could just be me though.

Its more like the modern evolution of drum and bass. They gave it the new name, dubstep, because it the UK D&B has a very ... whats the right word ... unpopular reputation among a lot of people in the music industry or just society as a whole. Sort of like gangster rap in the 90's here in the US, or Techno in its early stages in the 80s and 90s in Detroit or Berlin.

Normally the steady and very normal evolution of a genre doesn't just change the name of that genre, it modifies it like an adverb would. For example, house music has evolved over the last century to be mostly dirty house, then tribal house, to tech house and more recently most of it is electro house. Tribal house for example, circa 2002-2005 when it was most popular, was still defined as house music, it was "sub-genred" if you will, because producers were using a lot of tribal beats in all of the tracks around that time. Bottom line is that most of all of this music is created in the UK or at least in Europe so they drive the evolution of the music and the direction it goes.

I actually read an article about it I'll try to find, the culture around Drum and Bass was trying to redefine their image and Dupstep was the starting point for it. Its actually so ingrained in the electronic music over there now, that house DJs are making it part of their sets, and modifying it to be more like House music.

It does seem to be gaining steam very quickly. I was surprised to see that Skrillex worked with Korn. I know big techno names are already working with more mainstream groups but I was surprised to see dubstep take such a visible place

I will say that I was surprised at how complex the genres and sub-genres of electronic music was when I first started getting into it

wtf? do female vocals make you uncomfortable with your sexuality or something?

sounds like stuff for women to dance to..which isnt a bad thing if youre trying to find a girl, but i cant get into it personally

To both quotes: What the ... I don't even.

That song isn't that great. When it does the first semi-'drop' it is like, "Yeah, this could be good." Then it continues with the theme for too long without the strength increasing. (Thus losing potency) Also, the vocals are annoying as fuck. The sound it does over and over that is some high-freq shit is also annoying.

Not all of it is bad... you just really have to dig to find anything REALLY good. Most of it is just a remix of another song too. These aren't bad:

havent been exposed to much dubstep, but from what I have heard, I don't really care for the genre. These three mixes, I like though. More of a chill vibe

edit: ok I liked the first one. and liked the 2nd one until 1:50 when all the crazy shit started

It sounds like random noise that's usually part of interludes in techno tracks. Is this supposed to be enjoyable? No real melody, no underlying beat... just random noise with 2 second samples from real songs/movies/games/tv shows

Sagalore likes this genre, it makes me want to slam my head in a door. I think I'd rather listen to the baby cry for an hour.
