Supposedly it's been fixed in these new Catalyst Omega drivers.

If this is true, I will probably go back to AMD for my next GPU purchase.

Some systems experience this behavior. Just yesterday, I tested the same 270 card in 3 different systems (Conroe based, Toledo based and Haswell based). And only Haswell based system could reliably recover from sleep. Other systems had various "black screen" issues (with the fans spinning and not). The failure rate was not 100% though, sometimes it worked ok. I did about 20 runs. Go figure, what kind of incompatibility this is. Moral of the story, if you are not sure, go with nVIDIA. Alternatively, you can disable ZeroCore tech by preventing your monitor to go to sleep. See attached picture.

But when it works, it is great. My 270 Crossfire Haswell rig pulls just slightly over 30 watts (1HDD + 1SSD) from the outlet, during the night. Just a few watts over what HD 4600 would do in this scenario. Kudos to AMD.

This seems to be working for me so far.

Was really hoping that this Omega driver would fix this issue but alas, I still seem to have this problem of the monitor not waking up when it goes to sleep. I've had this problem since driver 13.12. 13.9 and earlier have no issues. Only workaround is to disable monitor sleep.

I would just like to throw an update from my end, recently I started using another monitor (by itself, not in a dual setup) and haven't had the problem once, specifically the monitor sleep bug, haven't really put my computer to sleep though to be confident in saying that part is completely fixed too though.

No problems with this monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236335

but my older one still has the bug: without it in front of me I think its the Dell UltraSharp 2709W

I had this problem with my Athlon 5350 media system... I had to switch my pre-amp's video channel every time I wanted to turn the tv on. I installed the Omega drivers yesterday and it works perfectly now. My wife was able to turn the TV on this morning without any issues

try disabling AMD fuel in services. Also, similar to a post not too long ago, I've set up a shortcut to devmanview (a small utility) to restart graphics driver (this one never fails, at least for me). the shortcut has to be in start menu folder or desktop (I put it in C:\programdata\microsoft\windows\start menu\programs). my shortcut is like C:\Tools\devmanview-x64\DevManView.exe /disable_enable "AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series". shortcut key must be set up in order to use the keyboard to trigger it when the problem occurs. the name of the graphics card can be looked up in the devmanview. when pressing the shortcut key combination, UAC window will pop up, since the screen is blank, press left keyboard key and enter.

Yup. Still suffering from this problem on an R9 280, even with 09 DEC Catalyst driver. Really displeased with AMD's apparent lack of expediency to solve this problem after half a decade. Will definitely be buying NVIDIA in my next build.

Oh this issue, good times pissing off my wife when she bought me a 7970 shortly after release as a early Birthday gift and we couldn't even watch a dvd or youtube without the screen shutting off multiple times in a hour causing plenty of hard resets.Beast for gaming and overclocking to 1200+ core but that sleep bug issue wow.

Hopefully this issue has been fixed for you guys.

Been playing around with this bug for a while. After fresh windows install the bug never raises its ugly head, only after updating driver do you get the bug.

What I found was updating the driver leaves duplicate driver entry to register which seems to be the cause of this hassle. Making sure to uninstall old driver, using DDU in safe mode, installing driver AND checking your register keys for duplicate entries can you be sure that those damn drivers installed correctly.

DDU doesn't always seem to manage clear register entries correctly, last time I had to do all that uninstall/DDU/install/check hassle twice until it went perfectly, no sleep problems afterwards.

If you change the graphics card ie. from 78xx to 79xx you will end up with same kind of register hassle with duplicate entries and even your device manager gets haunted by old nonexisting hardware which, even though your new GPU will work fine, prevents the GPU from ever waking from sleep.

NVIDIA, made by engineers. AMD, made for engineers.

I had this problem intermittently with a 7970 under windows 8.1

Haven't had it yet since I updated my drivers, but I haven't used this computer much since then either.

I had this problem but the fix was simple. Set wake up event to "BIOS" and resume from S3 by USB device, everything else set as disabled.

Given what we know about this "black screen issue", would it be unwise to buy some of those $78.99 R7 260X 2GB GDDR5 (Bonaire) XFX cards off of ebay (BestBuy)?

Would I just be risking problems? Or did AMD indeed fix this issue with monitor sleep mode on this GPU ASIC with newer drivers?

Well, I would really like to know if this is still an issue, specifically with the R7 260X, or if it was finally completely fixed with updated drivers.

Edit: I sold my 7790 cards probably around a year ago, so I don't have any experience with the black screen issue over this past year.

My two 7950 cards have never had the issue, that I know of.

My 7770 has resumed from sleep reliably at least 1000 times over the last couple years. I have gotten a couple odd blue screens over the years upon resuming, but hey, at least I could read the message.

1: The old work around prevented the issue from happening. No reason to not buy the cards because of this issue.

2: I have not had the issue happen in ages. Not sure which driver version fixed it for me, but one of them did.

Never had such an issue with any of my previous video cards. My current APU A10-6700 + A75 chipset also never had issues waking up from sleep. I used vga and am now still on DVI- D.

With my Radeon HD 7870, I have occasionally had this issue (seemed really random, no idea how to reproduce it !) on Windows 8/8.1. I don't remember it occurring on Windows 7, and it has never happened again since I upgraded to Windows 10.

I had this issue on my 290s with Win8.1 and Win10 but with the latest driver it has gone away. The display wakes from sleep correctly now. Before it would just be a black screen and I would need to hard reset my comp to get it working.

If I may contribute my experience to this thread - maybe I can provide some light as why people are experiencing this.

For all video cables, inputs, and outputs they are all governed and implemented by VESA.

For example, Computer Displays and Graphics Cards have a set VESA standard for communication protocols like a computer display's EDID which is the main form of communication between a Display input port and a Graphics Cards' video output port. The video cable must also use VESA standards too for the whole environment to work perfectly with no issues. It is very unlikely that a Graphics Card is not using the VESA standard for its video output ports. But, I have seen and tested many scalars for computer monitorss, video cable convertors/adapters and video cables that are NOT using VESA standards or is not VESA compliant = many are causing video picture issues and wake from sleep issues. When developing some of our monitors we had to modify the firmware for the scalar/monitor PCB (that we received from our scalar partners) to make it VESA compliant to make sure it doesn't have the issues that some of you are experiencing before they are market ready for shipping.

There was one incident that AMD had to add support to its drivers for a huge monitor brand's new display with a non-VESA compliant video input causing issues. There was another incident where a monitor brand had to release a firmware fix to a particular model's wake from sleep issues. Ultimately it is up to the monitor vendor to make sure they are shipping monitors that are VESA compliant and not AMD's job to check and fix every monitor in the market with its drivers.

Also, for example, a TV's VESA standard may be optimized to work with a Blu-Ray player or media player - but may not be optimized to work with a PC Graphics Card or PC video output. So you may have some communication and handshake issues. There are some TVs out there that will work with no issues with PC video outputs.

This happened a few times a month on my R9 290 Tri-X on Windows 8.1 on boot. Since upgrading to Windows 10, this hasn't happened once! Near the end of my Windows 8.1, it didn't really occur much either which makes me believe it was a driver issue.

I am 100% confident that the problem is not fixed though; just for my card with Win 10.
