does atitv products really work for analog capture

was looking for a cheap way to convert my vhs-c camcorder movies vcd or eventuly dvd.i think i want something that hardware decodes to mpeg2 then i can software convert to mpeg4 so i can burn to cd.am i thinking right or is it harder than that.

Thats basicly what I do, I have a ATI AIW 128pro, capture to .mp2 and convert to divx with vidomi. I have a VCR plugged into the AIW and just record from that. The faster computer you have the better for capturing, but it looks like your doing better then me in that department, I running a 1gig Duron, 512mg ram, 80 gig seagate HD and DVD-r, and it does allright but should be a little faster.

It works great. To get the best quality I capture using AVI-IO and the Huffy codec and then encode to MPEG. For more info try here.

well the machine i plan on using is a p3 933/pc133 ,384mb,ata33 30gig hd.
does this seem enough?

I would serious consider addiing HD space, 90min of medium quaility mpeg2 video is about 3.5gig so it adds up quick. As far as the rest goes, I don't know, my duron drops frames at medium capture and I really don't know how a pIII compares. The card itself proably makes a diffence to mine is oldero one of the new radon cards might help that to

well theres quite abit of room on that hard drive and i dont plan on keeping the vids on there.i want to convert them to cd.

and the vhs-c tapes i use are only 20 minutes long.

The 30 minute videos I have been capturing are about 1.2gig at medium resolution, so you should be fine.
