Its not really ultra processed in the sense of junk food etc... Its actual fruit soaked in enough sugar to dry and preserve it. Pretty sure the water content in fresh fruit would be not contribute to a good cake, hence the candying process.

you can dry fruit perfectly well without making it bright red/green and soaking it in sugar. Fruit has plenty of sugar as it is. Those "fruits" taste nothing like what they were made from. I've had plenty of minimally processed dry fruits and they were all delicious tasting very close to their fresh alternatives.

Fruit cake that's soft and velvety with FRESH fruit in it is great. Traditional fruit cake that has the fruit cooked inside of it has always looked gross, and I've never bothered to try it.

I voted Yes in your poll because fresh fruit in cake should be considered fruit cake

I made two fruitcakes this year. All natural with dried apricots, cherries, blueberries, raisins, cranberries, almonds and pecans. Soaked in good brandy. I like it and make it just to give to people who think they don't like fruitcake. Most people like it.

Heheh, no we get the same ones. It's against the law to buy or sell Kinder eggs in America because the toy inside is considered a choking hazard. They know me, so they sell to me every time I go in there (and sometimes flag me down when I am walking past )
