When I stare at the sun, things infront get darker. Is this HDR or just regular dynamic lighting?

EA just published it. Dice made it. Run along anti-EA thread crapper.

I don't care what you doubt or don't doubt.

What percentage of DICE's stock does EA own again?

No, BF2 does not use HDR. There is some specular mapping (nothing new) and some glow effects (for example, when an artillery shell lands near you and everything goes blurry), but no HDR. The sun is simply a corona.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Why didn't they use that displacement mapping (?) pixel shader where everything gets distorted around a huge explosion or blurry behing hot air?

i dunno...because the game runs slow enough without all that special effects?

basically, it's just work. thats why its not put in there.

Time?
Performance Reasons?
Engine Limitations?

Pick your reason, I am sure there are thousands to choose from...if I had to bet, performance would be what I would finger. With all the explosions going off in the game, sometimes right next to one another (rockets from Helos), I'm guessing something like that could really bog the hell out of the game...

It would be nice to have it as an option for future GPUs. After all, they did leave an "extreme" sound setting from the Creative X-Fi.

I noticed to sun effect too, but that's not necessarily HDR, it's just dynamic lighting. The first cool example of the effect I can remember is in MGS2, when you step indoors after being outside, everything is darker for a few moments. This is something similar.

I guess we could call it LDR, right?
