<< Oh Fausto, great god of music, whatfor art thou listening to? Are you sure it's good or do you listen to indie rock just to be a rebel? >>
Actually, I don't recall mentioning anything I listen to in my post, I was merely making an observation on the music industry as a whole. Exhibit A: The Billboard year-end top 100.
1. The Beatles
2. Shaggy
3. Backstreet Boys
4. Various Artists
5. Limp Bizkit
6. Linkin Park
7. Staind
8. Enya
9. N Sync
10. Nelly
11. Creed
12. Destiny's Child
13. Alicia Keys
14. Sade
15. Various Artists
16. Outkast
17. Dido
18. Lenny Kravitz
19. R Kelly
20. DMB
etc, etc, etc, etc, ad nauseum.
90% crap, and they all sold millions. And if any of these are your favorite bands; great. You can listen to whatever you want to. The problem is that any act with limited appeal (however rabid their fans may be) gets punted off any good-sized label because the label won't support the album, because it won't sell like N Sync, because they have a limited audience, because the label doesn't promote them, because they won't generate millions for the label execs, etc. See what I'm getting at? When there are only a few big labels looking to make lots of money, they create a self-fulfilling prophecy by promoting a limited number of acts to where they saturate the market and people buy it regardless of the quality of the musicianship. What I personally listen to is irrelevant to the issue at hand.
