Does FAFSA cover computer/computer related purchases?

I have a decade old CRT monitor that has recently begun to flicker and go off-color on me. I would like to just replace the damn thing and get a nice new widescreen LCD monitor, but I don't have the money. I heard from somebody that FAFSA covers computer purchases if its a justifiable purchase. Is this true?

Not that I'm advocating you go out and build a complete new gaming rig with FAFSA money....

I thought FAFSA covered ANY expenses. They don't need receipts that I know of.

no, I don't think so
I'm not really sure though.
I believe what you get offered is what you get, and that's based off your qualifications.

Now what you use the money for, that's another story.

If you're asking if you can use the financial aid money you recieved to purchase a new computer, sure you can.

They don't ask for anything to verify what you use it for, just that you meet the qualifications on a credit hour basis, and financially.

Interesting...

I MIGHT need a new dual core CPU then...or perhaps a whole new PC.... XD

To defend myself-Of course I use the bulk of the money that I have received (my EFC was $0 since for 05 my parents 1040 shows that they were in debt) for school and school-related purchases, such as books and supplies. Due to a recent administration change though, the tuition at my school has gone down a bit, so I would have some money left over.

What do you mean "cover"?

They're not going to increase your Pell grant or anything. Maybe the loan amount could go up, but that's still a loan.

Basically, you can purchase anything "school related" with it, including computers. That can be rent, groceries, tuition, etc.

How about you use the money to pay off your loans or stash it away in a higher interest-bearing account?

Spending it on worthless crap is only going to put you further into debt.

You can spend your financial aid money on whatever the hell you want really. Then again, FAFSA is just like any loan except with lower interest rates and a more convenient deferred payment plan. I know some students who don't need any financial aid money period (since their parents pay for tuition and rent), but they get a student loan anyways just to spend on $hit like a new car or something.

How do you get enough federal loans to pay for a new car? You can only get so much per semester, which is not enough to pay for a car. Unless they are getting private loans for it which is just stupid.
