Ok. So my company is now pushing pretty hard for me to relocate down there. They want to fly me and my wife down to Boca Raton next week. Anything we should check out or see while were down there?
Go anywhere BUT Boca. That city is filled with fake old people. In the summer the smell of plastic is overwhelming. Unfortunately its not on large-titted women, but on old ladies with giant sunglasses trying to look 75 instead of 104.
Get thee to fort lauderdale proper and go to A1A/Ocean Blvd and Las Olas. Sit in the sand and swim for a few minutes. You won't last long its already way hot. After that ye will find a bar called "The Elbo Room" - which is the quintessential Fort Lauderdale drinking experience and you cannot miss it on the corner of las olas/north a1a. Have at least a beer. It's about 20 miles south of Boca give or take. It's the law - and has been since the 70's and early 80's when FTL was the KING of spring break.
Get a bite at quarterdecks a block west, then drive the whole strip. Go south on A1A till you get to the yankee clipper hotel, then uturn and head back up. Cruise the strip north till commercial blvd. THen head back south and enjoy it again. Keep going south till you cross the 17th street bridge. On the other side of the bridge turn right, then immediately right again. Go basically parallel to the bridge and park underneath. Here is a water taxi pick up point. Get on it and take it around the canals. Takes an hour or so and I think its $5. You'll see giant megayachts and million dollar homes you can't ever afford.
Dania Beach is a quaint older community - kinda neat has a real old school feel, if your wife likes shopping - Las Olas is the place - well if your rich.... We have all manner of places to eat at and a very exciting night life at Riverfront.
If you want solace and wilderness and/or are a photographer - Everglades National Park is not to be missed. Lots of gators, armadilloes, wading birds, and a unique ecosystem. I suggest going down to Flamingo and taking a trail down to the bay, while stopping at a few of the turnoffs for scenery and wildlife. If you REALLY wanna see a gator - get to Big Cypress National Preserve - its practically to Tampa so maybe too far.
