How did you manage that one, I would think they counter people would just say we cant do that.

yes, I have done this before, but never more than 10%. Usually I will tell them I have a competitors coupon at home for 10% off. They call their manager and they approve it. Last time I tried it, they said they were getting really strict on markdowns though.

I would recommend going to the customer service desk to try and get this done. They seem a lot more willing to work with customers on things like this.

Maybe this was a smart one that grabbed one from the "been under the heat lamp too long" pile.

You can haggle on anything but it does not mean the other person/people will stand there and listen.

That can end up costing ALOT more then 61 cents, if you catch my drift.

This time of year, you're not getting a discount on a grill. Not a popular model, at least. This is when people start to buy for the summer.

If you want a discount on a grill, you really need to buy it in the late summer or fall. I got my Weber Genesis for 25% off, assembled, with a new ignitor because it was the floor model. I was there and by chance I asked, it was the first day they were authorized to sell the floor models. Otherwise, no dice. This was last fall.

im looking at a 2008 model. i read the 2009 where coming out soon. so i figured they might want to clear them out to make room for the 2009.

Do they have it in stock? If so, go there and ask one of the guys working in that section if he can mark it down and get rid of it. The one thing about HD employees is that they're generally able to give you information and make some decisions. Most aren't 17 year old kids, they're retired folks, sometimes from the same trade as the department they now work in. HD management tends to respect that and not treat them like children. Therefore, they can tell you what's up and if they can do anything for you, but you'll have to go in person.

Your best bet will be with the floor models. If they're missing parts, often, the guy will just pull new parts off the shelf for you. If not, Weber will sometimes just ship it to you. HD gave me the wrong ignitor replacement for mine, so I called weber, explained that it was a floor model and that there was a mistake on the part. He asked me for my serial # and shipped me the part, no charge.

This is something that has to get done in person, though.

But if its a discontinued model they MIGHT be able to work with him. Only way to find out is to ask!

They made it fresh! I watched them

I had to do it for my negotiations class (we had to pick any item that you normally don't negotiate for and see what you could get, I figured a dollar menu item would be exceptionally difficult).

I left my wallet in my car and took 61 cents into mcdonalds. i told them i didn't have my wallet on me (it was in my car) and i was starving and wouldn't be home for another 6 hours and they were the only people who could help me. She said "let me see what I can do". Of course there is a little more to the story that what I wrote, but that is the brief summary of it. I didn't lie once, which was my goal.

QFT. Someone needs to look up the definition of negotiate.

charity would have been if she gave me money, or someone else gave me money to pay the full price. she actually discounted it (down to 53 cents) and I paid 61 cents.

part of negotiation is about knowing what the other side values and taking advantage of the opposing side's weakness. i chose to exploit human sympathy.

negotiation is about agreeing to trade one item for another. we stuck a deal to trade one McDouble for 61 cents. how we arrived at that deal doesn't matter. I could have threatened to kill her if she didn't give it to me for free, that would have been another tactic to reach a deal.
