I had all 4 taken out at one time. I believe the uppers were impacted. I was under but I still remember hearing a loud crack when they had to 'wrench' one or two out. I was hurting for a day or so but I was vigilant about cleaning my gums to avoid dry socket.

When I came to the nurse handed me a tissue to dab some blood. I walked into the waiting area and since I was still loopy I yelled "I fvckin' bleeding everywhere". The nurse shoved the entire Kleenex box into my hand and asked my brother to get me out of the office immediately.

I would say the biggest contributers beside your personal level of pain tolerance would be staying hydrated and getting some nourishment as soon as possible.

Dry sockets suck, thats much less likely if you make sure you've had plenty of water before and after the surgery. Also, make sure you eat something as soon as the docs allow. tomatoes Soup, applesauce, pudding pops.

I didn't feel a thing the next day except for the annoyance of bumping the incisions remembering they were there. I just took the pain meds the first day just in case.

All four out at once, bottom two had to be cut out, all broken during removal. Went home that afternoon with stitches and ice-cream. Went back to farming the next day.

No biggie.

I have to get my wisdom teeth out and I look forward to having real painkillers. I don't know when I am gettting mine out.. I have no pain, so it is still up in the air. Think I'll do it July.

I had an operation for a possible testicular cancer (ouch) and only got tylonel 3
I had an emergency operation correct a mistake the doctor made (testicular torsion.. not fun), but I did get oxycodone.

Impacted means they are pushing up against the neighboring teeth, and they won't stop so they need to be removed.

All 4 of mine were taken out at once. I went under for it.

I really didn't experience a lot of pain, just a TON of bleeding. I couldn't go to my college classes for almost a week because the damn things bled so much.

I was given Tylenol 3 but I only took one. Just felt weak for a couple days since I couldn't eat solid foods and the bleeding.

I'm 38 and still have all of mine, and currently have no intention of getting them taken out. They're not bothering me.

only did local. tooth extraction surprisingly is painless in my experience. drilling depending on how numb you are sometimes isn't.
as long as you don't suck out the clot by doing something stupid you'll be fine. no straws...and eat with great care on the first couple days. i didni't bother with anything i couldn't blend into a drink

When I got my first two taken out, I did it with one of those "experimental drug research" things. Did everything for free and gave me $200, so why not. Problem is, there were 4 types of pills they give, 2 of theirs, 1 of normal medication, and 1 that's empty. Well guess which one I got. Possibly not worth the $200 since I couldn't have any medication for 6 hours afterwards.

Overall, it's not too bad. Just make sure you can get some tylenol or something after you get home.

the only 'pain' i experienced was injecting the shots. that was it, they cut them out and i went home and never touched the tylenol with codeine as it never bothered me

the worst part was the continual bleeding and if you keep swallowing it makes you sorta sick so i was spitting/drooling a lot for a few days (don't want to actually spit as you build up pressure and suck out your clots and get a dry socket)

They knocked me out completely and took all four. I was loopy on the drive home (singing out the window with gauze in my mouth), spent about 30min talking to the dog when I got home, and then, eventually, sobered up. Never had pain. Only took pain meds the day of and the day after. I would have gone back to work the day after but the doctor specifically said to wait til the 3rd day after to go back.

question to those of you who had this done

what gets filled in place of the tooth taken out? i mean is it just an empty space there with your gums hanging open?

and what's a dry socket?

i never looked
dry socket is when you suck the clot out cuz u were a moron and drank from a straw or something.... it hurts.
for deeper ones they do stitches that i know. mine were under bone and i got the ol bone saw and stitches. oddly enough it didn't hurt and it was one of the faster dental procedures i've gone through. quite amazing really.
