anything post-Episode 6 EU is being disowned because they have to make the new movies now. I believe Lucas has prepared a story outline for them to follow. they arent going to base these new mega budget movies off of the EU stories.

Which is incredibly stupid considering Timothy Zahn is a thousand times the writer that Lucas is.

Canonically, KotOR 2 was the light-side female storyline, and the exile was named Meetra Surik.

Yeah, I didnt know that until I looked it up.

It would seem that anyone who read the books would have a huge information advantage on the video game crowd.

But yes, pretty much all the stuff in KOTOR 1 and 2 was canon.

We were supposed to get a KOTOR 3 but the market kinda drifted off. Customers werent happy the 2nd game was rushed and unfinished to get it out before Xmas.
Series died.

I have no idea if the MMO Old Republic picked it up and finished the story.

TOR did in fact finish it up. Sort of.
You do meet Revan and the Exile's ghost in one light side instance, and I think you kill Revan in a dark side instance. Or sort of almost kill him, but then he vanishes.

It doesn't really matter if it's canon or not, after all, whatever happens in KotoR is thousands of years before the movies, so it doesn't affect either way (unless of course, Disney decides to make a movie or series about the Old Republic)

So except for the Force Unleased games which look dull to me and I have never played, I own most of these older games in their original media. I have not taken the time to install these games on my new Win 7 PC so I am asking which games will work easily on Windows 7?

I don't mind some minor tweaking but extensive config files and scripts are not my thing. Which games in this sale still work well with Windows 7 out of the retail box?

Also, which multiplayer modes are still played? I had Jedi Outcast and the multiplayer was amazing, for a while. Then the player base died off so I am wondering if there are any players still playing these games on non-Steam? How many players will revived because of this Steam sale? Is it worth re-buying a game just to play that multiplayer again with a expanded player base?

TL;DR = Which games are hard to install on Windows 7 so I can re-buy them? Which games have few multiplayer players so I can re-buy them?

KOTOR 1-2 are easier to install and run better with the Steam versions than the discs. The Steam version of 2 does work with the restoration mod. Plus they're $7 total.

From reading user comments, getting Dark Forces 2 - JK to run is iffy, many people can't. I bought JK 2 - Jedi Outcast for the single player and that part "just works" for Windows 7, I haven't tried multiplayer.

I'd suggest reading the user comments and look at the "not recommended" to see what problems you might have.

There was another thread on this forum asking what games people have played repeatedly to completion the most over the years, and KOTOR 1 and/or 2 were mentioned probably more than any other game. I think that speaks for itself.

They work fine on both Win7 and Win8,I have the retail version and also installed the Restoration pack for KOTOR2,no issues on my Win8.1 Pro x64.

For that price a bargain and highly recommended if you like Star Wars in general and RPG type games, sure graphics are dated but its still good on gameplay in general.

Restoration pack? I had a quick read up about it, but I still have a question - is the additional content actually original content but bypassed, or has new content been created?

KotoR 2 was rushed out of the door, lots of content was cut (but the artwork and code still partially included in the CDs/DVDs). I remember when I played it, at about halfway through the original game things stopped making sense, that's in big part because they cut entire sections when they ran out of money. The restoration pack restores those sections to the game and is IMHO a necessary mod for KotoR 2.

I mentioned my question because I own most of these games already in their retail form and I don't want to overpay for games that I don't need to re-buy.

For example, I have no interest in the Force Unleashed games or the Republic Heroes game. And I own Battlefront 2 but hated the art style and gameplay compared to its predecessor.

So instead of paying $34, I will have to pay $23 if the KOTOR games are easy to install with the retail version on Windows 7. Which is why my question is important for me* to decide.

*Yes, I am quibbling over 11 dollars. Otherwise I would have bought the games normally on Steam for the full price.

Ok, bought the Jedi Knight package, Starfighter, and Republic Commando. For those who don't have the KOTOR games, I recommend buying those, either separately or in the whole package.

You've already bough them now, but for anyone else:

KOTOR 1-2: Like I said above, the Steam versions worked better under 7 than the disc versions (that I had) with latest available patches for them.

The Steam versions "just worked", no extra effort. For K1 on disc I had to get a patch for the DRM. For both K1 and K2 on disc they had a bug where after a combat you'd sometimes be unable to move unless you save, exit, load.

I didn't play KOTOR until about 1-2 years ago. I think it held up well despite the dated graphics and UI. Audio is more important than graphics in some ways, and KOTOR audio was good.

Yeah, the only reason I did not buy them was because I already own these games and I am not going to repay for the games I already have. But $7 for both KOTOR games is a great deal.

I consider both of these games to be better in story and characters than the Mass Effect and Dragon Age games.

What a weird thread. KOTORs 1 and 2 are some of the best games I've ever played, a opinion fact I thought was shared by every gamer ever born. A followup KOTOR 3, of the same quality (after patching KOTOR 2, of course), would absolutely make me

I don't think it does. Its pretty linear and the story is not so great. It is still a fun game, but it may be hard for it to hold your attention through the entire thing.
