Does Mass Effect 3 suck?

I have enjoyed Where's My Water on my Phone more.
Maybe I don't understand the game, and I am playing it wrong because ME3 certainly looks well made.

I did enjoy ME3 to a degree but admittedly the cliched/Hollywood-style cutscenes (which, in addition to being unskippable, were just excessive) were a turn-off for me. The literally linear gameplay (RPG, my ass) means no replay value either.

I understand these help the game appeal to the general audience but still...

ME3 was Game of the Year for 99% of the game, and then became a butthurt fanboy's worst nightmare in the last 20 minutes of the game. I mean the original ending was horrible...

Loved it, the outcry over the ending showcases a pretty astounding lack of imagination from the players though imo.

The game is basically great until you face the last 'boss', Maruader Shields. Goes downhill real fast from there.

The game makes every decision you ever made across the entire series into a pointless effort to waste time. I raged hard at the end of that abortion of a game.

I waited until it was in the discount bin, so I don't know what the origional end was. I enjoyed it. Not sure what all the rage was about.

I thought not bad until the ending(which was bad IMHO) however multiplay is not bad at all and I still go into MP for a few rounds now and then .

I dunno... I didn't play it for very long. Loved the first two games, but for some reason, was not into the third. Maybe if I gave it more of a chance - not even sure I made it through the initial "escape" before I gave up on the game.

Something similar happened to me with Witcher II. Just felt so different/foreign from the first game, that I never really played it.

Fixed that for you.

I saw some items in the press that said, "This was a huge fuck you to the audience." That we were shitting in the audience's face. Why would we want to do that? Why would we entertain people for eight years only to give them the finger? We don't have contempt for the audience. In fact, I think The Sopranos is the only show that actually gave the audience credit for having some intelligence and attention span. We always operated as though people don't need to be spoon-fed every single thing—that their instincts and feelings and humanity will tell them what's going on.

David Chase, creator of The Sopranos on how it ended. The Sopranos ending was also highly criticized for being "inconclusive" and not giving exact closure.

I feel the same about Mass Effect. Throughout the series, the player is treated like an intelligent, mature person: themes on life, love, death, equality, racism (specism?), sacrifice and more pervade the series. You, as a player, make sweeping, dramatic decisions going off little more than your own judgment and intuition throughout the series.

I'm glad that the ending didn't spoil that and turn this magnum opus into a fairy tale. It asks the player to interpret the events leading up to climax and make their own personal forecast about their consequences, to think about the personality and beliefs of the other people and how and where that will take them, to inject their own ideals into Shepard, and to create their own scope. You're given a vast amount of information, it's up to you to determine how your Shepard ultimately shaped the galaxy.

It was great. Just get the DLC and it'll fix the ending. It had tons of really special moments and if you played the other 2 you have a strong emotional attachment to the characters and how some of the outcomes. It's definitely worth playing through.

That is nothing more than a huge cop-out. It's public knowledge that they were pressed for time and threw shit together just to get the game out.

Why else would they have re-released new endings for it after the mountains of rage all over the internet? They know they shat up the ending and even their efforts to fix it are lackluster.

The game was amazing, everything was amazing, until you get to the end. Then EA pops out with a trollolololo.

The Extended Cut DLC was only marginally better than the stock ending. Its still crap.

Those same emotional attachments you formed with the characters over the first two games come back to bite you in the ass because of how bad the ending was.

That said, I enjoyed the journey.

First off that's a TV show, it's a non-interactive form of media. The whole selling point of mass effect in the beginning was making your own story, making tough decisions that would have serious effects later on. Fast forward to Mass Effect 3, and we find out none of that was true, and then they took the mother of all dumps on the story with that star child crap.

The extended cut was nothing more than an extending cut of a crappy ending. It's not that the ending was short, it's that it was bad. Adding a few more scenes to it did nothing but change it from a crappy short ending to a crappy slightly longer ending.

I loved the game itself. The ending was pretty much terrible and ruined its re-playability.

Story or lack of story doesn't really bother me.
Deus Ex has a great story line, but the game was great because the shooting and puzzles and strategy all work very well together and as a whole. ME3 doesn't seem to be very good as a shooter, the puzles are simply confusing, I don't know what I am supposed to do, so I cannot even begin a strategy.

Lol.

Bringing in an entirely new character to tie up the plot in the last 20 minutes, in the most bullshit manner possible, and then being told to "use your imagination" is not acceptable.

Every "personal forecast" from the original ending that made any logical sense pointed to widespread death and disaster after you supposedly "saved the galaxy". Earth would be ravaged as most of the fleet that arrived to save it starved to death, for starters.

Abandoning the entire plot and then telling the reader to "make up their own minds about what happened" is lazy. What likely happened is Bioware has some pretentious writers (or Casey Hudson), who decided at the last minute that they were done writing space-opera and wanted to actually do something avant-guard and "artistic".

Imagine if at the end of the Return of the King, where Frodo and Gollum are wrestling around for the ring, the movie just paused, and the viewer got a choice of 3 endings that equally made no sense, because Peter Jackson wanted to maintain his "artistic integrity". That's what Mass Effect 3 was.

I am more upset at how the gameplay evolved from 1->2->3 than the ending. ME1 is a more true RPG with tons of weapons, different mods that actually do stuff and is difficult. There is more to explore, more conversation options and noone is holding your hand through it -- many levels take strategy and planning. I also enjoy the crouching option which was not present in any other ME.

ME 1 is the bees knees and what happened was that they wanted to consolize it, they did and then the rest of the series was constrained by consolitis. By ME3 you're like an invincible hulk with less options and can use your biotic skills all day long without worry. There's less to explore, the gameplay is more linear and it's more of a cover shooter than anything. I also enjoyed the overheat/cooldown mode of the weapons much more than the WAY more cliched bullets/reloading in 2 and 3. By the time you get to the ending are you really expecting much?
