Considering the distance between the mounting holes has not changed for the last 4 sockets, it would be logical to think that any cooler that fits 1150/1155/1156 should work just fine, right?
However, I remember reading in the Skylake reviews that the height of the whole package has changed, which would mean that an older cooler might not make contact properly with the heat-spreader. Is this so? Does it need washers? Anyone has any experience with this?
Follow-up question: If the heat-spreader is thicker then that means the TIM under it is also applied in a thicker layer. Does this mean Skylake requires a better cooling solution than previous generations to be kept at the same temperature?
