Does Southwest Airlines think we're stupid or something?

What's with this new commercial they have out with them basically bragging that their fares can only be found on their own website? How is that even a good thing for them to not allow Orbitz/Travelocity/etc to see their prices? Does Southwest think we don't like comparing flights and coming up with the best one based off price/times/location of all that are available? Am I missing something here or is this really a good thing for them to make prices exclusive like they go over-the-top to say in this commercial? I don't get it, but then again I don't fly much at all so maybe I wouldn't understand.

southwest doesn't nickel and dime with fees so they may come up on top in an orbitz search (has orbitz added baggage fees into the search engine?)

they're streamlined - that's why they can offer great prices. not too many hands in the pie.

everyone knows this.

yeah. expedia/travelocity or whatever charge a small fee to the airline.

the fee is worth it though IMO.

NO, NO, NO, NO!! The worst travel experience I ever had was with a vacation booked with Expedia. I had booked a trip during that big snow storm in DC. No help from them whatsoever. Didn't even know that the airports were closed. The even hung up on me when I asked for my money back. Had to do all the painful legwork myself. Spent two solid days on the phone.

Southwest has direct pricing so there is no real reason to use websites like Orbitz for them. Southwest is a solid airline, im glad I live right by the main Southwest hub.

I've never been able to fly to Dallas and back for $95 including tax and all using either of those.

Ding! ftw

Not to mention the fact that no other airline can compete with the in-flight comic relief.

It means they do not pay any middle men. So go to the site and see their price, not a marked up one.

Hmm? Perhaps he was responding to the OP for whom the obvious did slip past.

Really? Other airlines charge to check a bag, and you complain that you have to go directly to SWA's website?

southwest's biggest airport is mccarran, at over 15.5 million enplaned/deplaned. dallas love and houston hobby are each just under 7.5 million.

edit: the website strategy is obviously working for southwest
In 2006, 70 percent of flight bookings and 73 percent of revenue was generated from bookings on southwest.com.

Except Dallas Love is still the main hub for Southwest since their HQ is there.

My step-mom worked for SWA for something like 23-25 years? Retired a few years ago with full benefits for like 15-20 years since she never took a sick day, and free lifetime flights for her and my dad. On top of stock options and her 401k

SWA is a great company, but on the employee side they have taken a dive, mostly due to the internet and no longer needing reservation centers.

in airline parlance, swa doesn't have hubs, it has focus cities. continental has hubs.

i was on an swa flight back to houston from dallas and that plane was leaving hobby to fly to salt lake city and then the bay area. just route them all over the place.

I can only compare SWA cargo to AA and Delta, and they are BY FAR the best airlines to deal with as far as far as cargo goes. Always on time, very quick, and very polite...but thats getting of the point of this thread.

SWA, no middleman, blah blah blah, go to site.

Got a SWS flight (MDW-OAK-MDW) via Expedia and saved about $50. :\
I usually end up flying SWA or AA.

So, it's so hard to open one more browser window, type in SW's web address and look? Guess it must be....for the terminally lazy.

As for the last few flights I've taken, after checking prices on Orbitz/Travelocity/et al, going to the specific airline's website got me a cheaper fare every time.

Seems like cutting out Orbitz from the middle results in cheaper fares......so why use them? Too complicated to search up AA/Delta/United/whoever's website?
