This needs to be confirmed somewhere else of course but a recent youtube video raises concerns about an alleged app and its alleged permissions that it give Starbucks to control the phones of employees (again allegedly)

Is anyone in these forums friends with a Starbucks Batista who can confirm or deny this story?

P.S. yes I deliberately misspelled a word.

because of this thread about the same topic in other forums

As I've read on this there is no requirement to download it. What the app does is connect those who have installed it through the Starbucks servers allowing them schedule changes etc... I assume they want some control given the app or a loss of a phone exposes their systems.

This looks more like unintended consequences that malicious intent.

Thanks I wouldn't put this on a personal phone unless it was an older one I could use as a burner.

Hopefully most employees think a bit before allowing it to install once they see the permissions.

*I realize Starbucks doesn’t require this app be used*

Simply makes the app into a device administrator giving them the ability to remote wipe and sets password requirements. Same thing happens when I connect my work email to my phone. It is not a big deal.

Agreed it’s not a big deal, obviously if someone is fired or loses their phone the app needs to be disabled.

I've had this for years. Basically, you can use your own phone with no controls and lots of privacy...but you pay... or you have a company phone that they provide and it controlled by corporate IT. They would say, if you need personal communications, get your own private phone. If you want a company phone, you will abide by corporate policy. If this is a situation where they will NOT give you a corporate phone (and pay for it), but will require you to have a managed device, then I would say that it's out of bounds. You should be able to say, I don't have a phone, if I need one for work, then the company should provide it.

I manage my employees phones. If they want to put corporate email on their personal phones I tell them upright that I will have access to it and one you leave the company I will disable your phone and all of your contacts will be gone. Personal or corporate. Happens all the time. Hell, it happened an hour ago.
