I am currently looking for a SATA2 10,000RPM drive, and i dont know of it exists. Does anyone know of 1, and if not, would you reccomend 2xraptors or 2xSATA2(unknown make/model) both RAID 0?

The 150GB Raptors do not support 300MB/sec transfers, but like any other hard drive today, that is not an issue, because no hard drives ever exceed 150MB/sec in STR anyway (and probably not in burst either).

To the OP: if you want a 10,000RPM drive and don't care about the cost, get a Raptor and be happy. Otherwise, you can save money for only slightly less performance and get some other drive - either 150MB/sec or 300MB/sec is fine, because the bandwidth of the interface will not affect performance at all.

Thats true for sustained rate, but burst rates can exceed 150mb/s. My 250gb WD 3G has a sustained rate of around 62mb/s but the burst rate gets up to about 165mb/s.

My raid-0 SATA 3G WD's have a sustained rate of 101mb/s, and a burst rate of 268mb/s.

As for the OP's question, I don't think there are any 10k rpm SATA II drives. The new 150GB raptor is still SATA 150, and the AFIK the raptors are the only 10k rpm SATA drives.

My 160GB SATA II western digitals in raid-0 are a good bit faster than my 36gb raptors in raid-0 were. The 74gb and 150gb raptors are a good bit faster than the 36gb raptors were though.

I think ill go with the 2 raptors, though i dont know if ill go to the 74 or stick with the 36. I dont really need over 80 gig, i only use 60 now. Does it really make that much of a difference to go to the 74?

Yes, the 74 is much improved over the 36. I have the 36, and while it's a decent drive, normal 7200rpm drives have long surpassed it. The 74 is a good choice for a single drive, but I would prefer a single 150 over two 74's RAIDed in level 0, personally.

If you're going for 2 raptor 74s then you should be warned that for most applications you will get better performance from a single Raptor 150

Why bother paying top dollar for outdated hardware. If you decide on Raptor, get the 150 and be done with it.

I prefer to look at the performance of other drives compared to the raptor and get some decent storage out of it. For the price of a 150gb raptor, I got a 374GB Caviar that performs almost ON A PAR with the raptor series. This to me, is value.

ok, so then
1)would a single 150 be better for BF2?
2)is there a difference(besides price and the glass view)between the raptor x and reg 150?
3)where would i find the best price for the better 1?
