He talks about how he is an EE major, and he gets into technical details of the amp. Can someone who knows electronics take a look and tell me if this will be worth the price? It is double the price of the other cmoys available on ebay.

To preface, I am an electrical engineer,

I have built a CMOY myself in my lab at work, and basically it is nothing more than an OP-AMP being used to buffer/gain your signal. The premise being the signal generated by your computer (especially a laptop) is capable of recreating the Voltage of the sound well, but struggles to actually deliver the current needed to drive a headphone flat across the frequency spectrum. I do find on my work laptop a CMOY drives my Sennheiser HD-555s much better than my laptop can.

The bass boost function sounds like nothing more than a simple low pass filter with a gain boost stage in it that is 8x the power of the higher frequencies. Yes it is probably for real, but I bet it sounds like crap, since a static bass boost function is just going to make your headphones sound unnaturally boomy.

So it's an amp for headphones? I suppose you'd need some good headphones then for something like that to even be helpful?

Yes you need good headphones. The impedence of the cans are more important than the price though. High impedence cans need an amp, they will show the greatest benefit from an amp. Low impedence cans people say don't need an amp, but I have heard the difference -- even they benefit from them.

I realized you've already ordered the product, but just thought I'd toss my 2 cents in anyway.
For the record I'm an electrical engineer for a brand name professional audio company.

The seller has some valid claims but most are common design practices that should be used in any respectable product. Overall I'm wary, nowhere in the page does he provide any sort of numbers (THD, noise floor, freq roll-off, impedance, nor any other numbers for which a audiophile is looking for); most selling points are based on his opinions.

Although the beauty is in the eye of the beholder or in this case, your ears. If it sounds good to you and can justify the cost then its a good purchase.

The cmoy has been around for a long time, its specs are pretty well known. The price he is charging is a bit extreme. Total cost in parts is under $20, in bulk a lot less.

Im sure the specs for the original are around, but the one he is selling and claims is better than the original has no specs to compare to.

I bought a CMOY on ebay for under $35. It paired nicely with my Grados. I don't know how this one is supposed to be better than the one I bought, but it certainly costs more.
