I used to weigh around 140 pounds before I started running. Now I'm closer to 160 pounds in a pretty short time of around a year. Is it possible I put on a lot more muscle mass when I ran? I usually hear stories of people losing weight when running, but it was backwards for me, and I'm just wondering why. Did this happen to any of you?

Yes. When I first start lifting weights and running when I haven't done either for a long period of time (about six months minimum) I gain weight at first, because I put on muscle so quickly. It takes a long period of regular exercise for the muscle growth to stabilize and, correspondingly, for me to start losing weight in the form of fat loss.

I haven't put on much more fat, probobly a tiny bit, but now my heart rate is substancially lower and my endurance is a lot better. I used to have trouble running a mile now I can run 3 miles pretty easily.

Hehe yeah 140 lbs is rather lightweight ... how tall are you?

I think it's normal that you're gaining, since muscle is much heavier than fat. You're probably becoming fairly buff?

Not really, I was expecting to stay around the same. My BMI is normal now, I was underweight before.
