The US is like it's own self contained world, which is why a lot of Americans don't keep up on world affairs---it just doesn't affect them.

Why don't they go over and ask Europeans the capital of Ohio, or the names of coins in the US? You'll get the same reactions.

You're not helping. Considering that Europe has nearly the same amount of countries as we have States.

Besides nobody cares about whether you know the capital of Moldova or Florida. The stupid stuff is when you don't know the sides of a triangle and can't point out a country on the map that your armed forces are currently invading. The stupid is when you start saying things like we should go nuke the middle east.

Nonetheless, most people are stupid. Never ceases to amaze me. Lots of Europeans for example have no idea how big or even where the Pacific ocean is. Why? Somehow having Europe in the middle of their map makes them not see it. I can't begin to tell you how many times I have tried to explain to Europeans how big the Pacific is and how our travel distances are enormous. They just don't get it.

I didn't watch the entire video, but its really easy to interview a ton of people then cherry pick results to fit your viewpoint. I could do the same thing, pick different people who answered everything correctly and say "LOOK HOW SMART AMERICA IS!".

Israel is a nuclear armed state that is in the middle east and has been subject to multiple wars since 1948 as well as countless military strikes. It's a hotbed of political and religious tension and conflict. We suffered a decade of hijackings as well as an attack on the Olympics due to the Palestinians there. It's the ONLY Jewish nation on the planet. People qualify as a special kind of stupid if they don't know the answer to the question but nobody is going to hold a lack of knowledge about Ohio against them.

they cherry pick the cuts. Some are idiotic but not suprising. I question why a average person in the US needs to know so much about other countries. We have more then enough problems at home to worry about. such as jobs, schooling etc (both are very bad right now).

Also We memorized all the nations of the world in school. think it was around 7-8th grade. other then that time period i really haven't thought about it in the last 25ish years. IF something is happening in another world and i want to know more about it i look it up.

How do you know where the smartest people in the world are? Where are the statistics for that?

I know that when I was graduating from University there were some scary numbers being thrown out. Students in the USA graduated with Engineering degrees were going to be eclipsed by 10 fold by Chinese graduates.

A quick google search shows that we have about 1,300,000 college graduates each year. 55% of those who start finish. 50% don't finish after 6 years.

China had 7,000,000 college graduates this year.

Not saying quantity over quality (especially considering that I think Chinese education is terrible) but how does one count the smartest people in the world?
