I'm sure they asked 50 people these questions and only showed the 6 that went full retard. You can see several answering multiple questions wrong.

Well not to nitpick because I do agree with you but Chinese papers are published in Chinese. The rest of the world publishes in English.

Mandarin has ~3x as many native speakers...that's got to count for something for in-country publications/citations. And anyone who wants to join the global research community publishes in English, even the Chinese.

America does have a tendency to attract the best and the brightest. You can typically make more money, do more research, and win more competitions here than most other places. Just look at per-country stats on Nobel prizes, Olympic medals, economic output, scientific paper citations/publications, new company formation...

The US has lots of problems, but it still occupies a somewhat unique position in the world order.

As the matter of fact in 14 days we have an election for regional affairs (for lack of better) and i watched my national tv channel asking people what that election was about and none got it right. I am a member of a political party and I expect ppl to know what the vote is about and they just don't know either here so who am I to judge. Anyway, I hate these videos. The US is HUGE- it's one country that is over twice the size of Europe. If we only had 20 or so states to memorize facts about, we'd be a just an knowledgeable. The US is like it's own self contained world, which is why a lot of Americans don't keep up on world affairs---it just doesn't affect them.

Why don't they go over and ask Europeans the capital of Ohio, or the names of coins in the US? You'll get the same reactions.

Because Americans have led the charge in the race to the bottom since before I was even born. Even growing up in the eighties, smart people were ridiculed by the cool kids. Every 80s movie and TV show made drove home the point that yuppies were evil, fuck the future and live a little. Who fucking cares how many sides a triangle has? Nobody needs to know that. We invented this shit and now a new generation is being raised by people that lapped that shit up. We have a full generation head start on other countries when it comes to willful ignorance.
