I've hated that video for years. Lots of those people thought they were trick questions because of the context. Think about it: if Star Wars were a fictionalized sci-fi re-telling of a historical event, mostly only the Star Wars nerds would know/care. They were obviously instructed to guess at most. Yes, there were genuine idiots in there too but that's mostly cherry-picking and catching off-guard.

How do you know where the smartest people in the world are? Where are the statistics for that?

I know that when I was graduating from University there were some scary numbers being thrown out. Students in the USA graduated with Engineering degrees were going to be eclipsed by 10 fold by Chinese graduates.

A quick google search shows that we have about 1,300,000 college graduates each year. 55% of those who start finish. 50% don't finish after 6 years.

China had 7,000,000 college graduates this year.

Not saying quantity over quality (especially considering that I think Chinese education is terrible) but how does one count the smartest people in the world?

Their population is much larger than ours. Stupid point is stupid.

Also, Chinese PhD programs pump out documents like no one's business. The real value is how many people reference those papers. The average American PhD research is referenced more than 600 times. The average Chinese PhD research is referenced once.

I see you capitalizing the TRI in triangle but have no idea why.

lol uh huh..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tri

A triangle is one of the basic shapes in geometry: a polygon with three corners or vertices and three sides or edges which are line segments. A triangle with vertices A, B, and C is denoted \triangle ABC.

Now if you got anything else that i may be missing i would love to hear it.

i'm just sharing a funny video..

Jesus Christ why can't you guys take it that way?

Because it wasn't presented that way. If I made a post with this title + accompanying video - "Look at all the dead cows in the water people drink, is this representative of India?" - would you guess I was making a joke?

TRIangle - 3 sides
TRIathalon - 3 events
TRIple - 3 times

You see a pattern emerging?

As this is a tech forum lets add TRIforce to that aswell.

What the fuck is tricky about asking how many sides a triangle has?

its in the dictionary (at least online ver) Also remember in school them enforcing the point of TRI in triangle is 3 angles and 3 sides

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tri-

: three : having three elements or parts <trigraph>
2
: into three <trisect>
3
a : thrice <triweekly>
b : every third <trimonthly>

I'm really confused on his point to be honest. Maybe i'm missing something. totally possible i didn't have coffee this morning.

I don't think he had a point, he either had a brain fart or just doesn't know this.

Well not to nitpick because I do agree with you but Chinese papers are published in Chinese. The rest of the world publishes in English.

I don't have time to google what you are talking about. Polygon? Vertices? Denoted? You are just making up words now to try and sound smart.

Video probably edited to show only the stupid answers. Anyone can do a feature video asking people questions on popular topics and getting the correct answers.

Also, I don't want to get into what America actually needs India for, as your country has been used and abused by imperialist powers for a such a long time that even table scraps seem opulent.

Like I said: context. I don't know where they got "four," but I immediately thought that the people being asked would try to incorporate "inside" and "outside" in their answer like so many other "how many sides.." trick question do.

...

No. Just...no.

Just like in no context is Europe a country, there is no context in which a TRIANGLE has anything OTHER THAN 3 SIDES.

Get it through your thick skull: context is what led them to believe it was a trick question and give a different answer than they otherwise would have. Nowhere did I ever say that context changed the correct answer. People are not expected to know the answers to jokes or trick questions and the answers would not be the same or else they'd be pointless (that's why the person did not guess three). It's beyond obvious that they were encouraged to guess.

In what context is a triangle not a triangle?

I know people who cannot answer these questions. Including the triangle one most likely. It's not out of the realm of possibility that these people really didn't know. I'm sure they asked 50 people these questions and only showed the 6 that went full retard. You can see several answering multiple questions wrong.

How is "how many sides does a triangle have" a trick question? How COULD IT be a trick question?
