Does U-Verse support uplinking?

I'm in a blind corner of my house and as a result, the Wi-Fi that comes native with the AT&T U-Verse modem doesn't reach me. The U-Verse 2Wire modem is 11g, and I have an 11n router sitting in storage. I was thinking of hooking the router up but saw no uplink plug on the 2Wire modem. Can it be done?

Yes it will work, I plugged my netgear dualband N router into my Uverse 2wire router. I do occasionally have some weirdness with dhcp/arp but it usually resolves itself before I can figure out which one is causing it.

So how did you do it? I couldn't get the U-Verse modem to feed into my router, a Linksys E2000 11n router.

Crossover cable from WAN port on N router to any port on the 2wire, firstly make sure the IP and subnet are different. Or, disable DHCP on the N and plug any switch port on it to any switch port on the 2wire.

Traxan - check google for putting your Uverse Residential Gateway into "DMS Plus Mode" so that you can bypass it as use another router to manage your internet.

Most modern networking equipment supports cable auto negotiation and does no require a crossover cable.

You should be fine using any ethernet cable to connect your n wireless device to any port on the uverse modem. You will need to disable DHCP on the n wireless device and your setup with work just fine. The N device should not be on a different subnet. This is how I have my network setup at home.

The reason I suggested setting your UVerse Residential Gateway in DMZ Plus Mode to accomplish this is because that is how AT&T recommends you accomplish what you are trying to do with their equipment. The other suggestions of disabling DHCP on the RG might work, but it's not the configuration that is recommended.

I agree that is the simplest way, the other way would be to use the N router as another network entirely using the G router as it's gateway. I think it's called segregated networking or something, I forget.

Thanks everyone. It worked. I'm not at n speed instead of g.
